Information Galore on the Return of the PST

Sunday, March 3, 2013 @ 4:47 AM
Prince George, B.C. –  The provincial government is supplying a pothole full of information on the return to the Provincial Sales Tax April 1st.

The final legislation and regulations to re-implement the PST  are now complete, the final legislative amendments to the Provincial Sales Tax Act have received royal assent and the regulations to bring it into force have been approved by cabinet.
To help businesses prepare, government is also making available unofficial consolidated versions of the Provincial Sales Tax Act, Motor Fuel Tax Act and the New Housing Transition Tax and Rebate Act reflecting the amendments made in Bill 2.

Businesses that sell or lease taxable goods, or sell software or taxable services in B.C. must register to obtain a new PST number, even if they already had one under the previous PST. It’s estimated that more than 70,000 businesses still need to register for the PST to ensure they are ready to collect the PST on April 1, 2013.

Businesses can register three ways:

In person – go to the nearest Service BC Centre. See locations at: www.servicebc.gov.bc.ca/ – or visit our office at 1802 Douglas St. in Victoria.
By mail or fax – complete the Application for Registration for Provincial Sales Tax (FIN 418) found at: www.gov.bc.ca/pst (Go to Forms and Publications.)

Additional tools and services available to help businesses prepare for the re-implementation of the PST include:

One-on-one consultations with a government tax specialist.
Online webinars and in-person seminars covering the general principles of the PST and eTaxBC.
PST bulletins and notices.

What a great kafuffle involved in simply returniing to what we had!
The HST certainly didn’t involve this much hoopla!

We voted to go back to all the tax exemptions. I see those thieves have choosen to put a 12% pst on private sale of vehicles to match dealer vehicles. That should go back the way it was. Just another way to suck money from us.

thats Federal GST, PST was always charged.

Its not Federal GST. It is a special tax that the Provincial Liberals brought in,. The additional 5% will go to the BC Government not the Feds.

Not surprised are we?

Awwww – relax bentely, we all know the NDP is going to fix all those wrongs they say the liberals did as soon as they get back to the trough.

We only have to wait a couple more months now, and we’ll finally have peace and prosperity even better than we had when they were in power last time.

I can hardly wait.
