Air Quality Advisory Continues
Thursday, March 7, 2013 @ 9:05 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The air quality advisory for Prince George continues as high levels of dust remain in the community.
The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 6 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site and 5 µg/m3 at College Heights at 8 this morning.
The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 30 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 24 µg/m3 at College Heights and 46 µg/m3 at BCR at 8 am today.
Although the 24-hour readings are not currently above the provincial objectives, this advisory remains in effect as hourly data from the Plaza site still shows elevated PM10 (8 am reading of 58 µg/m3).
Based on the data, the high levels are mainly due to road dust in the bowl area.
Light winds and dry conditions overnight as well as clear skies contributed to dust accumulating in the air shed. Air quality is expected to be better at higher elevations. Levels may improve slightly this afternoon but increase again this evening.
This Dust Advisory will be updated/cancelled this afternoon.

Wonder why they call it road dust when the high readings are at Plaza 400 and the BC Indusrial site. At Gladtone school the reading is quite normal.
Google BC Air Quality.
Cheers
Everything is better in College Heights….so they say.
Not at that school. The poor are quality comes up into lower college Heiths from the BCR Industrial site. The air quality is not monitored in the residential areas in the bowl. We are just born loosers, we are just taxpayers.
Cheers
” loosers “…..thanks. I do get a chuckle everytime I read that.
And yet, even on free transit day, the buses still idle in clearly marked no idle zones. Am I the only one who thinks this is stupid?
Now if Northwood could put out the hog pile fires that have been burning all winter.
I know I posted this before. But bugs me the Gov would be at our door in heartbeat if it was non industry.
