Prince George, B.C. –Coming soon to 250News, a live streaming image from what is being dubbed the “Osprey Cam”.

The good folks at Sims Group on Otway Road, have a pole with an osprey nest on top. “We watched the ospreys all last summer” says John Irving, the CFO for Sims Group. “My wife is a teacher, and thought it would be a great educational experience for her students to be able to keep track of the osprey once they return to the nest.”

So, if you will pardon the pun, an idea was “hatched”.

Sims Group has arranged to put a monitoring camera in a tree next to the nest, to watch the osprey as they lay their eggs, and raise their young.

250News has agreed to carry the live stream video for them, and will do so once the technical aspects of the set up have been put in place.

“We are very pleased to be part of this local effort” says 250News President Ben Meisner. “When I lived along the Nechako River, the osprey were always fascinating to watch. From their near ‘hover’ over a potential dinner, to their dive and retrieval of  a fish, it was great to watch. Thanks to Sims Group, we will be able to see the rest of that  story.”

John Irving says a nesting pair has already taken a look or two at the nest, but there is still too much snow in the nest for the pair to consider making it their “home” for the summer. “We watched them well into September last year” says Irving,” and we are hoping for the same thing this year.”

Cool birds. Diet of fish exclusively?

Excellent! This will be interesting to watch.
