AG for Local Government Won’t Investigate Complaints

Thursday, March 14, 2013 @ 4:12 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The  new office of the Auditor General for Local Government (AGLG) is expected to start its first audit in late May.

The AGLG, Basia Ruta has advised the North Central Local Government Association she will use a “no surprises” approach in her work, that  each local government will know exactly what will be audited and how the audit will proceed.

In a meeting with the Executive of the NCLGA Ruta emphasized the focus will be on performance audits and that best practices will be identified and that information share for the benefit of all local governments.

Ruta says her office is still developing it’s plan for 2013/2014, a plan that will include the themes for the focus of the initial audits. One thing she wants to make clear is that her office is not the ‘ombudsman’ and while it would respond to enquiries from individuals who may have complaints about their local government, her office will not be conducting investigations into any such complaints.

She says the AGLG website will be the principle communications tool used by her office, and that all final audit reports and recommendations will be available on the website

What are the chances, in a province where most of the population lives in regions with little, if any, snow, of the office doing a performance audit of snow removal? Likely nil to none. :-(

Simple, take Vancouver lawn mowing audit and where ever it says mow insert the word snow:)
