End of Season At Hart Ski Hill

Prince George, B.C. – It is the end of the season at the Hart Ski Hill in Prince George, as volunteers removed the lift equipment Sunday afternoon. The end of the season wasn’t because of poor conditions, quite the contrary, the hill has lots of snow. What it doesn’t have is lots of users. "With spring break on, most of our volunteer staff, and a lot of the skiers have headed out of town" says Darryl Moulder, one of the volunteers helping remove equipment.
"There was no shortage of snow this year, so our manager has told me this was a very good year for the ski hill" adds Moulder.
The feeling is, that by the time the staff returns, the weather will have done the rest of the damage and the hill won’t be good enough for skiing.
So, at 4 yesterday, the last of the skiers, and boarders made their way up the hill, for one last run on this hill for this season.

Not a lot of users? Well wouldn’t they make up for it with the two week spring break? Doesn’t seem a smart thing to do.
The hill is run by volunteers. volunteers with day jobs. The hill is not normally open on week days. To have it open days during spring break would require the volunteers to use their vacation time to operate a ski hill. It would be great if it was open for spring break, but that is a lot to ask.
Let’s just use this space to thank the volunteers for a great season.
Thank you on behalf of me and my family.
acrider,
did you read the first paragraph?
Scan too fast I guess
The Hart Ski Hill and it’s volunteers do an incredible job of providing a great place at a very reasonable price for young people, families, and everyone in between who enjoy downhill skiing and snowboarding. Nothing but Kudos to the volunteers from me. A fella by the name of Mike Gareau pretty much spends all his spare time there, evenings, weekends, and holidays as a volunteer. Thanks Mike and crew!
Listen up all you snow enthusiasts.
Tabor Mountain is open this week with the best conditions it has seen in years.
Here’s the catch. If their is not enough of the public heading out there this week the hill will close next weekend.
If you have not made it to Tabor this year, do yourself a favor. They have added new runs that will make you say Wow! the first time down.
Boarders will be amazed by the terrain park, jumps and rails.
I say it again – get out there – you’ll be glad you did. The rates are as good or better than any of hills in the interior and the snow pack is awesome!
So which is it at Tabor? Open or closed?
Where is the spokesperson? Kolberg seems to be involved.
I am very thankfull for the Hart Ski hill volunteers. Keep up the good work! Its people like this and the facilites at the Hart Ski hill that make skiing and snowboarding cheap enough to get people active in these sports on a daily basis.
$10:00 for a night lift ticket.. you cant beat this!! Although the hill is nothing compared to a large comercial ski hill it is still very enjoyable and better than going to burn off some blubber at the gym.
Cheers,
gus – not sure what you are looking for.
Tabor is open this week but will close next week if they con’t get enough traffic.
Also – I heard that a free 2013/14 season pass is up for grabs next weekend for the best outfit. Don’t know the details but I understand they are doing some kind of retro period custome day….
Tabor is open this week, and conditions are good. What opine is referring to is if no one goes out there this week, then he won’t open next week. So there is a close to town ski hill open as long as people are making use of it. Can’t expect the guy to burn diesel all day if no one is using the hill.
Oh – just for the record. Our family loves the Hart Highland Ski Hill. One of PG’s worst kept secrets.
I also remember 100 Steps. Had my first taste of Glayva on that hill!
Good stories – good times – good memories.
Sorry, opine. My mistake. :-(
I am a fan of both the Hart and Tabor, ‘involved’ in neither.
According to their website, Tabor is open all week. Get out there and enjoy it.
The people of PG need to embrace our winter and get out their and enjoy it. Spring is still a long way off. Head out to Tabor and enjoy this weather.
From my experience, Powder King’s season always ends due to lack of interest and not lack of snow. This year it will probably be the same for Purden and Tabor, while the parking lots of Costco and Walmart will be full of spring shoppers.
