Mayor’s Executive Assistant Leaving Post

Wednesday, March 20, 2013 @ 9:05 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George will soon be looking for a new Executive Coordinator.

Beverley Smith, will have her last day at City Hall on April 12th, just one year and 11 days since starting in that post.

The hiring of Smith sparked controversy as it occurred just 8 weeks after Mayor Shari Green and Council announced 28 positions with the City were being eliminated. Of those cuts,  19 were vacancies that would not be filled, and a further 5 union workers and 4 people in management were given their walking papers.

Smith’s hiring was further scrutinized because the job position was not posted, a move the Mayor said was not necessary because it was an “exempt”,  non union position.

It is not clear if the opening will be posted this time, as the Mayor is on holidays and there is a new City Manager to arrive on scene May 1st ,  it is also possible the scope of the position could be altered.    When Smith was hired, the Mayor told 250News she would be providing services to the Mayor, and would be “available” to the City Manager.

Smith is leaving on her own accord, which means there will be no severance package.
When contacted by  250News, Smith said she thoroughly enjoyed her time at City Hall, "But an opportunity presented itself,  and I decided to  take it.  It was a very difficult decision for me."

Smith will be returning to  Northern Health,  taking on a position in the office of the Interior Medical Director.   She had  been working at Northern Health when  she took the job with the City.

I don’t blame her for leaving. She was hired to work.

Most memorable moment was telling O250 “like the mayor is TOTALLY not talking to you.”

She came from Northern Health and is going back to Northern Health…too bad it took her a whole year to figure out what Mayor Green was all about…afterall Green fooled enough voters into believing she was the change PG needed and that she would lower our taxes….that did not happen!

Beverely all the best in your new position back with Northern Health…

I agree with the above poster there needs to be a major clearing during the next civic election….starting with the Mayor

Leaving a sinking ship.. at least one person has a clue in the mayors office, Once she leaves no one will..

Blub BLub BLUb BLUB

Heard Ms. Smith is a really nice and hard working young lady. Never crossed paths with her so is only positive gossip. Who in tarnation could work with the latest and greatest? The second Green took the chair, the long time person prior to this gal, left pretty quick, the chair had not even cooled down from Dan leaving. Wish the lady well.

Sometimes one has to leave an orgnization in order to move up the ranks.

I am assuming that is the case, that she is taking a position which is an improvement over her previous position at Northern Health.

Leave the position vacant until we elect a new Mayor, put the money in potholes !

Here is a position that is needed. A mayor that Prince George can trust and work with.

rumor has it that she was personal friends with Sherri when she was hired, and perhaps why she was hired. Perhaps it was time to leave before the friendship was ruined.

Wanna try for a sixth?

Pamela Martin will be available after the May “revolution”. Tell her she can commute as part of the deal.

As a tax payer I think the Job should be posted and a person from P.G. should be hired.

Thank you Beverley, I appreciated your hard work. Best wishes on the next leg of your journey.
