Cougars Say Thank You

Wednesday, March 20, 2013 @ 9:19 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Cougars have issued a letter of thanks to their fans, billets, fans, volunteers, off-ice officials, billets, local media and corporate sponsors for their support through the  2012-2013 season.

In an open letter, the Club offered praise and gratitude for the contributions made to the hockey season that has just ended, and offered some positive thoughts about the season ahead  as the new coach , Mark Holick, prepares for his first full season as leader.

“Not only will the Cougars boast several young up-and-comers from the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, but they will also boast a strong core of returning forwards, defensemen and goaltenders that will all be hungry for improvement” reads the letter.

The letter concludes “One more time we want to thank everybody who watched, helped and supported the Prince George Cougars in 2012-2013, and we look forward to greater success both on and off the ice in 2013-2014 and beyond.”

“we look forward to greater success both on and off the ice in 2013-2014″…..showing Dallas the door would be a good start:)

It is mind blowing that a GM with a record like Dallas Thompson has still has a job. In his bio it says he took over GM duties in 2004 the decline of the organization is in the record http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_George_Cougars#Season-by-season_record
This town just wants a team that competes night in night out. The revolving door of coaches has not worked out so you wonder where else could you make change?

I think that this could be the year that they get rid of Dallas Thompson if the rumours are true. I made a promise and I intend to keep it. The day that they get rid of him and hire a hockey man with some credentials and accomplishments, I will order my seasons tickets again. DO they think that the fans are happy about having a losing team year in and year out?
The Vancouver Giants are rebuilding right now and watch them in a couple of years. Meanwhile, if the Cougars don’t make changes, they will continue to lose way more than they win.

Please Sell the Cougars to someone who will actually hire competant people who know how to run a hockey team. You cant hire family and friends and expect to do well. THe fan base is fantastic but 18 years of rebuilding is a bit nuts.

I would gladly be a season ticket holder again if we had a winning team, one gets tired of seeing the team struggle. Its these players careers you are playing with and you dont seem to care. Time to move on and realize that with all your focus on your team in the states you have none left here.. so go there and let us have a team.

If Brodsky sells the team, there is no reason to believe that it will stay in Prince George.

I seriously doubt if you can ever get the fan base beyond 2500 per game average. If what Brodsky says is true (you need 3000 fans per game to break even) then you need at least 3500 to make a decent profit.

No profit, no franchise. Brodsky can cut corners by having his family run the losing franchise, however a new owner would not have that option.

Anyone in Prince George willing to put up the money on this franchise and take a risk???

Somehow I doubt it.

May this team become better next year. It would be nice to see a competitive team play in Calgary in the years to come. For this will be the only place that I will be able to watch the Cougars from now on.

Get better ?? The team has nowhere to go but up ! Soon Thompson will announce another great amibition of ‘making the playoffs next year’…….which really means not finishing in last place because only the last place team does not make the playoffs ! Never a word about developing a team and aim for the Memorial Cup…….NEVER ! 10 years of misery under Thompson! He must have taken all the mirrors out of his home ! How can any other GM of any other team take him serious when he calls for a trade ? It is the Cougar players that are suffering !

From what I’ve heard, there HAVE been unsolicited offers to purchase the team in the past, including one that involved a blank cheque.

I have no doubt in my mind that the Cougars could average well over 4,000 a game if different ownership was in place. Under this group, the on-ice performance of the Cougars has been simply abhorrent.

I don’t live in PG any longer, but I gave up my season tickets after many years because I got sick of supporting a team that displayed a keen inability to compete AND because of the fact that they did nothing to substance to change the situation. It’s like continuing to go a restaurant that poisons you. Eventually you’ll find some other place to eat . . .

Well said NMG.

Had 4 seasons tickets for 9 years prior to 2008. Haven’t been to a game since. If Brodsky sold the team there would be a rush to buy tickets again. Its a good league, only the ownership and management are keeping the club from being a contender. When a team isn’t happy they don’t produce. It shows here in the Cougars. Change of ownership would make this a totally different and very competitive franchise, one that the players would be proud to play for. The problem is Brodsky. “Sir , you don’t want to be here.” Please do P.G. a favor and give us back our hockey. SELL! SELL! SELL!

As much as I sooooo want Brodsky to sell the team…. it’s never going to happen. Brandi and Dallas would be out of work…

On that note, Brandi is VP of the team. Does she actually think her hubby is doing a good job?

it sure would be nice to have an owner(s) that resided in pg…does anyone know the revenue formula that the city has with the cougars? how can an attendance that averages 1500 per game pay the bills?

bc2412,. The Cougar franchises does not generate enough revenue to pay the bills, in fact I suspect that the City loses about $60,000.00 per year by having them in the building.

The original revenue formula with the City was that the City got 12% of the gross revenue from ticket sales. If sales exceeded $150,000.00 the Cities portion rose to 15% on the revenue over $150,000.00.

A few years ago they negotiated a new contract and I have not seen anything on it. However my understanding is that the City gets 12% of the gross revenue and as the ticket sales decline, the Cities percentage declines, so in essence the less fans, the less money for the City, however Brodskeys portion remains. (Something to that effect)

So it seems that not only do the Cougars lose, the City also loses.

Would a new owner be able to turn this around. Somehow I doubt it. Yes they could in the short term, but over the long haul, people will find other things to do, not the least of which is go to the casino.

Interest in Hockey is on the wane. People can watch the Spruce Kings, NHL on TV, and of course the Cougars. This is over kill. There is just so many hours in a week.

Those fans who say they would attend games if they had a winning team, could at the best be described as fair weather fans. Those who attend on a regular basis are seniors, and juniors, with a smattering of middle age fans thrown in. Not much when you consider the cost of the Centre.

We could probably make an argument that if they had 5000 fans per game, maybe they could turn this ship around. Not attending games until they become winners, is a sure fire way to kill off the franchise.

Pylot Project….unless the team is sold Brandi won’t be going anywhere, however there is hope that Dallas’s time could end, because the marriage is over.

Palopu, stick to airport comments. You clearly aren’t a hockey fan and couldn’t care less about the team or keeping them in PG. We all get that.

As many others have commented, there would be greater interest if the team was run better or at least competed on a yearly basis. That’s why I gave up my seasons tickets.
