Still No IIO Determination in Matters Case

Prince George, B.C.- It has now been more than 6 months since Greg Matters was fatally shot by the RCMP on an east Prince George property.
The Independent Investigation Office was called to the scene within hours of that office officially opening, but there has been no further word on that investigation.
Yesterday, for the first time since it officially opened last September, the Independent Investigations Office has forwarded a case file to Crown Counsel to consider charges.
The case stems from an incident in Creston last October.
Creston RCMP had been called to a Creston business around 1 in the morning. While dealing with the situation, an adult male became involved and there was a physical altercation.
The male was taken to hospital for treatment of serious facial injuries.
The final report on that incident has now been forwarded to Crown Counsel a move the Chief Civilian Director makes if it is thought an officer may have committed an offence. It will now be up to Crown Counsel to decide if any charges should be laid.
The Matters case is not the only one in this region which the IIO has yet to issue a determination. There is also the more recent case of a suspect suffering injuries after falling down an embankment near Upland Street while trying to out run Prince George RCMP. And there is a case in Vanderhoof that involves a vehicle slamming into a power pole after police observed it “stunting” in a parking lot.
The IIO has taken on 18 cases since opening in September. Five have been cleared, one now referred to Crown Counsel and 12 others remain under investigation.

How the hell can we expect our police to catch criminals if they can’t even chase them? If you don’t want to get hurt while fleeing the police don’t flee, pretty damn simple. If you flee and fall down tough $h!t for you!!!
The BCCLA is there to protect people from injustice and wrong doing. Who is guilty of what racer?
one would think that given the erts deployment that there would be clear documentation of the events and how they unfolded, including video and audio sources.
what could be taking so very long to come to a conclusion?
it seems obvious to me that given the complete absence of information from the iio in the past 6 months regarding this case that the rcmp members involved and/or the rcmp as an entity cannot be cleared of wrongdoing.
It will be self-defense. Guaranteed.
I agree my2bits, that is probably the only way for the cops to save face. After all, saying that the policeman panicked would not sound good. How well do these people sleep at night, I wonder?
metalman.
We have to accept that like everyone else the police are humans who will make mistakes. Unfortunately sometimes those mistakes end up with someone dead. Doctors, truck drivers, drivers of passenger cars, paramedics, parents, etc. all can make mistakes that end up with someone dying.
Pulling a trigger is a mistake?
and against an unarmed man?
He never owned a gun, He was in his own home. Maybe he had a stapler.
