Daffodil Campaign Starts Today

Thursday, March 28, 2013 @ 7:00 AM
Prince George, B.C. – It is a simple little daffodil, but to so many , it means so very much.

The daffodil pin has become synonymous with support for not only the Canadian Cancer Society, but for those who are on a Cancer journey.

The annual Daffodil campaign launches today, which is also the organization’s 75th anniversary.

Founded on March 28th , 1938, it has grown into Canada’s leading national cancer-fighting charity.

During the Society’s early years in the 1940s, the cancer survival rate was about 25 per cent. Today, more than 60 per cent of Canadians diagnosed with cancer will survive at least five years after their diagnosis.

“Our 75th anniversary is an opportunity for us to celebrate how far we’ve come while also recognizing that more work needs to be done,” says Barbara Kaminsky, CEO, Canadian Cancer Society, BC & Yukon. She says that with half of all cancers being preventable, “it’s  time for us to focus on doing just one thing to reduce our risk.”

Events in  Prince George over the coming month to support fundraising  include a “Flower in Fashion” fashion show and silent auction on April 7th , and Daffodil Day  on the 27th.
Tickets for the fashion show can be purchased at Dandylines, the Canadian Cancer Society, The London, and Park Avenue Apparel.
