CNC Scrubs Drive Gives Health Students a Hand

Sunday, March 31, 2013 @ 4:33 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Health professionals in the Prince George area are being asked to donate their gently used scrubs to CNC which will then be sold, with proceeds supporting a health sciences bursary at CNC.

The lightly-scrubbed scrubs drive is organized by CNC nursing instructor Nancy Esopenko, who co-ordinated four successful drives in 2011 and 2012.  “We have awarded a total of $2,500 in bursaries so far” said Esopenko, an RN who teaches in the Northern Collaborative Baccalaureate of Nursing program. “Ten health sciences students have received $250 bursaries to support their education and pursuit towards becoming health professionals. That’s 500 tops or bottoms that have been donated and sold at $5 each.”

The scrubs will be sold for between $5 and $20 depending on the uniform at CNC’s Gathering Place (atrium) April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any health professional can donate their scrubs. They must be washed, in good shape and recyclable for others to use. Drop-off locations are at CNC’s Library, Spirit of the North Health Care Foundation office at the University Hospital of Northern BC and Lakewood Dental clinic.

Esopenko said she sees students from all demographics, including some who struggle with finances, which is why she created the fundraiser.
