Victoria, B.C. – The person who will step into the shoes of B.C. Auditor General John Doyle, at least on a temporary basis, has been selected in the provincial capital.
An all-party committee of the legislature has named veteran accountant Russ Jones acting auditor general once Doyle leaves the post in May. Doyle had applied for a second six-year term but the committee, comprised of three Liberal and two NDP MLAs, could not reach the unanimous agreement required for his reappointment. Following the raucous public debate over the handling of the matter, Doyle decided to return to his native Australia to take up a similar position.
Jones, who began working in the Auditor General’s office in 1980, will be the acting auditor until a permanent one is selected sometime after the May 14th provincial election.
