Dust Advisory Continues

Thursday, April 4, 2013 @ 5:04 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The dust advisory for Prince George continues.

As of 4 pm, the 24 hour rolling average for PM10   was 59 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 39 µg/m3 at College Heights and 52 µg/m3 at BCR , the provincial target is  50 micrograms per cubic metre.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles (PM2.5) is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 10 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site and 9 µg/m3 at College Heights at 4 pm.
Light winds at night and dry conditions over the past several days contributed to dust accumulating in the air shed. Precipitation is forecasted to develop over the area later this evening which will help in reducing particulate levels. Air quality is expected to be better at higher elevations.

This Dust Advisory is expected to be in effect until tomorrow morning, with an update to be provided at 9:30 am.

They are not cleaning the streets at all this year….they did by this time last year

Real easy solution….clean the blasted streets!!

Pretty bad when you have to rely on the weather to clean the dust in the air out of the bowl.

To bad that sorry excuse for a city council would not get some street sweeping happening instead of spending money on trips to China, municipality conferences, buying old hotels, air rights, etc.

I’ve lived in other cities where there seemed to be a far more collective sense of pride in the community. In addition to the city cleaning the streets, home owners got out brooms and shovels to help clean up the streets in front of their homes. Businesses and institutions were also very proactive in getting their parking lots cleaned as soon as enough snow was gone.

I was at Pine Centre a week ago and also Parkwood Place and was amazed at the amount of gravel, sand and DUST in the parking lots.

Just imagine how much less dust there would be if all parties involved put a bit more effort into cleaning up this dust bowl!

What’s the incentive? What’s the penalty? Moot points.

Mayor Green is doing a piss poor job of maintaining our streets from snow removal to now street cleaning unbelievable

Well I heard on the radio the other day that street cleaning isn’t aloud when the is a dust advisory on. Ironically as I heard this on the radio I was driving by a street sweeping crew. I guess the rules don’t apply to city sweepers.

Hartguy there is pride in this, to make it look like sh…
Blow the snow off the lawn onto the street. Then rake the sand and gravel off the lawn onto the street. Let the weeds and grass grow on the medians. How about the winters pile of dog sh.t on the sidewalks and trails. That is pride.

“Blow the snow off the lawn onto the street. Then rake the sand and gravel off the lawn onto the street.”

One of the very first things my parents taught me was to clean up after myself and put things back where they belong after O have finished with them.

The snow on the City’s part of my lawn, and sometimes on my lawn as well, comes from the street, as does the gravel. Since the City daddies and mommies do not seem to have grown up in families like mine I end up having to put it back. They have the street sweepers. I do not.

It’ll be canceled today I’m sure, but they will lay more sand and gravel down.
