Man Posing as Police Officer Sought

Thursday, April 4, 2013 @ 4:35 PM
Prince George, B.C. – RCMP in Prince George are looking for a man who is suspected in two separate incidents of a person impersonating a police officer.
Around 11:30 last night, a motorist advised Prince George RCMP they had been pulled over  in the Foothills, 1st Avenue area by what was thought to be an unmarked police vehicle with flashing red and blue lights. The witness driver stated that no one got out of what was believed to be an unmarked police vehicle, and after about a minute, the vehicle left.

Police conducted patrols in the area  but didn’t find their suspect.

This morning, Police received a second report of a person impersonating a police officer. The incident had taken place  last night, about ten minutes after the  first one.

In this situation, an adult female was driving on Foothills Boulevard between 1st Avenue and the Foothills Bridge when she was pulled over by what she believed to be a dark coloured unmarked police car with red and blue lights. A man exited the vehicle and approached the driver side door identifying himself as a police officer. He advised the female that he would be taking her driver’s licence as a result of previous driving infractions. The man requested a sexual act from the female in order for her to avoid having her licence seized. The woman refused at which time the man requested $50 payment instead.

The suspect is described as:

·      Male between the age of 20 and 25
·      Darker skinned, possibly First Nations or Hispanic
·      Approximately 6’0"
·      Thin build
·      Black, short, curly hair
·      Wearing a white collar shirt and dress pants

The suspect was not wearing a gun or any police officer tools.

The suspect vehicle can only been described as a dark (likely black) sporty car.

The Prince George RCMP have a fleet of unmarked police vehicles that are used for a variety of purposes including traffic enforcement. Some of these vehicles do not look like a ‘typical’ police car, but may from time to time pull over vehicles for various reasons.

The Prince George Municipal RCMP and Provincial RCMP counterparts  are offering some safety tips to the public should they have any concerns about the legitimacy of an officer they may be dealing with:

If any person identifies themselves as a police officer and makes unusual or inappropriate requests:

·      Request to see identification or other proof that they are in fact a police officer;
·      Ask the officer to have a marked police vehicle attend;
·      Advise the officer that you are going to call 9-1-1 to confirm the officer’s identity.

No police officer will ever have a reason to request money from a member of the public.

This investigation is a high priority for the Prince George RCMP and is continuing.

scary! keep doors locked, crack the window, trust no one! sheesh

Sounds like we have another serious predator on the loose around here. Hope he is found soon.

Lucky the female wasn’t assaulted. Always go with your gut instinct, it’s there for a reason!

What the police don’t say, is that anyone can flash a badge. Ask for the identification card, these impersonators normally won’t have that.
Hope they catch this SOB soon.

Parents tell your children about this guy and this incident.

This dude needs a little redneck justice!

Sexual act? $50 dollars? Hmmm. Time to be suspicious. However, if you couldn’t speak English and you got tazered right away, well then, no need for ID. Right?

Harbinger, you are an idiot.

We need a list and pics of all undercover cars. ;)

Solution to the problem.\

Get rid of the Police Ghost Cars. Police should be visible to the public so that everyone knows what the hell is going on.

Hiding in an alley in an unmarked car is not a solution to anything. All it does is create problems as outlined above.

Harbinger, you are not an idiot.
Palopu, you are onto something there and we should ask the politicians about using that as an election statement

As a precaution, I will not be stopping for ghost cars with flashing lights. They will have to tazer me or shoot me in the back.

I like the cops advice, ask for id, funny. If in doubt keep rolling and call 911. If you stop and its some nut case it maybe too late to ask for id. But then if you do not stop and it is a real cop he or she may have a hissy fit and shoot ya.

Anyone can throw a set of red white and blue flashing lights on their vehicle. Palpou has it right get rid of the ghost cars, SUV’s, trucks and vans, don’t forget the Hyundays. If you don’t see the RCMP decal ont he door as they are exiting, drive off and call 911 and who cares if you’re yaking on the cell phone while driving.

Nope I disagree. Do not get rid of ghost cars. We need them. I was a victim of an armed robbery at a PG restaurant years ago and the unmarked police vehicles were an asset in searching for the suspect.

We don’t need to change the world just because one idiot decides to impersonate a police officer in an unmarked car.

What are we gonna go if they guy starts wearing RCMP clothing? Are we gonna terminate the police uniforms then?

I think not.

Other things that can be done if you have apprehension about being pulled over, particularly at night.

– Slow down and turn on your hazard lights (4-way flashers). This indicates to a real officer that you see him or her and do intend to pull over.
– Move your vehicle to a safer location. If possible, find somewhere well lit and public.
– As stated in the article, if you have a cell phone, you can call 9-1-1 and have them confirm that the vehicle attempting to pull you over is a real police vehicle. You can also request that a marked unit attend.
-If, in the very likely case, it is a real police officer calmly and respectfully explain your actions. They should be understanding especially given the recent occurrences.

We don’t need to get rid of unmarked cars, they are useful for a variety of situations. What we all need to do is think, be aware of our surroundings, and take responsibility for our own safety.

Get rid of ghost cars, are you kidding me? It’s hard to follow drug dealers and rapists with a normal police car! Use your heads people, why do the police get blamed for some creeps actions?

Wish he’d pull a cop over……….

A narc using an unmarked car will not be doing traffic duties.
