Snowmobiler Spends Night Outdoors

Monday, April 8, 2013 @ 5:11 PM
Prince George, B.C.- A young woman spent most of last night   in the cold, waiting for search and rescue.

Prince George Search & Rescue reports the woman, in her twenties, was thrown from her snowmobile, and hit by that machine, leaving her with a possible back injury.

Prince George Search and Rescue  was called out, and located the woman around 3:30 this morning.   They were able to stabilize her and waited with her until a helicopter arrived at first light this morning to lift her to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. for treatment.

Prince George Search and Rescue say the young woman’s  fellow snowmobilers were well prepared to handle the situation. The party of 5 had left a trip plan with friends, and when they were an hour past due, a search was started.

PG Search and rescue also   sends out thanks to Pacific Western Helicopters, BC Conservation Service and BC Parks.

Great news. Thank you to those who came to the rescue. We are fortunate to have so many who are dedicated and committed to offer their services to these types of organizations. We need to do more to support them financially as well as personally.

WOW! Awesome job by all. Thankyou for the great work you all do!
If you go out alone, just remember, there’s lots of hungry bears this time of year.

I am not saying this young woman did anything wrong, but I have seen many people on snowmobiles doing stupid stuff that makes me think that they won’t live long if they keep it up. If you are one of these, remember what you have is a machine that will not care if it hurts you… And it won’t go and get help for you. Use them responsibly, and treat them with lots of respect. For this young woman I wish her well, and the rescuers should be able to sleep well tonight, unless they get called out again. I do not envy thier job, as they put themselves in dangerous situations all the time, all to help the general public.

I have know this family for years, all the best to you. They flew her to Vancouver. She has a broken back, but can wiggle her toes.

Get well soon…

My thoughts are with the family and freinds.

A couple of things for sure about sleds that is unavoidable!
Sooner or later, they will jump up and attack you or they will break down and leave you stranded!
That’s a given, but they are great fun!
Glad she is ok…wishing her a speedy recovery!
