Library Offers 7 Week Amnesty

Monday, April 15, 2013 @ 3:52 AM
Prince George, B.C.- It may be dog eared, it may have been nibbled on by your dog, it might have fallen into the tub, or a snowbank, or suffered any number of fates, but the Prince George Library would like to have it back.

The P.G. Public Library has declared today, through to May 28th as a period of amnesty for customers with fines for overdue materials, lost cards or any other “hitch” that has hampered their ability to check out items from the Library. There are more than 47 thousand Library card holders in Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.

The normal re-issuing fee of $5 dollars will be waived for those young members who may have accidentally lost or possibly destroyed their library card by maybe using it to scrape ice off a windshield. “It’s all about welcoming people back to the Library” says Andrea Palmer, the Library’s Communications Co-Ordinator, “We know we have many   young members who may have taken out materials and loaned those materials to a parent, another member of the family or a friend, and the materials have not been returned. We understand everyone makes mistakes, and this is a time for those young people to have the slate ‘wiped clean’.”

“We know there could still be some CD’s, DVD’s, books, cassettes, VHS videos in addition to books out there, so this is an opportunity to bring it all back” says Palmer.

The 7 week amnesty puts the welcome mat out for all the past and present users for free replacement cards, fine reductions on past late materials and NO FINES on materials handed back during the amnesty. There will be even greater bonuses for child and teen customers “This is a great chance to work out whatever may be preventing you from using the library, we’d like to welcome you back” says Palmer

Anyone interested in fine reduction or forgiveness should contact or visit the public library (either location), call 563-9251.
