Trudeau Sweeps Way to the Top
Sunday, April 14, 2013 @ 4:26 PM

41 year old Justin Trudeau, the eldest son of the late Pierre Elliot Trudeau, was named new party leader this afternoon following the release of the week long balloting.

Under the balloting system, Trudeau needed 15,401 points. He garnered far more than that in the first ballot, collecting 24,668 points far ahead of the second place candidate Joyce Murray who picked up 3130 points, and Martha Hall Findlay who got 1,760.
There are still two years to go before the next Federal election, and the Federal Conservative party is already pointing out that Trudeau lacks the necessary experience to be considered a serious contender for the job as Prime Minister.

Is it a coincidence that Christy Clark’s 100,000$ tv Ad is broadcasted just in time right after Justin’s time in spotlight?
“There are still two years to go before the next Federal election, and the Federal Conservative party is already pointing out that Trudeau lacks the necessary experience to be considered a serious contender for the job as Prime Minister”
I think the Conservatives are nervous and for good reason IMHO.
A couple main points:
– Like him or not, Trudeau will get people out to the polls to vote for the Libs, people that may not have voted in past elections. He could do for Canada what Obama did in the US when it comes to attracting certain people to the polls. Harper, on the other hand, I don’t think is inspiring anyone new to get out to the polls. I think their base is pretty stable.
– The lack of experience is overblown IMHO. Trudeau doesn’t have to know everything about everything to be an effective PM, but he would have to display strong leadership and have a solid supporting cast. His ability to succeed will depend largely on the slate on candidates the Libs can put together.
It will be interesting to see what Trudeau’s and the Libs response will be to the attack ads that I’m sure will start running this week.
The next election is still a long ways off, but I have a strange gut feeling that Trudeau will be a problem for the Cons. People like him, he speaks well, he has natural leadership and he also has a bit of a spark in him. The Libs have allot of work to do to rebuild, but I think this is a smart move on their part.
It was also interesting to note that the CBC story indicated that Trudeau received the largest number of votes in Canadian history for a party leader to be elected. Yes, I think politics in Canada just got a little more interesting!
He will give the Conservatives a good run because people in this country aren’t really that politically smart. They will vote for Trudeau because he is a celebrity.
Why do you consider J.T. a celebrity Ruez ? I don’t see him working on Entertainment Tonight. This man was the obvious choice to rebuild and unite the party. Also the obvious choice to win back the seats that were lost to the NDP in Quebec. Its been a while since we have seen a charming charismatic politician and the worried reaction to his leadership from the Cons and the NDP will make for great entertainment.
Now if only Ben Mulroney could just get Harpers job, oh what a perfect world we would have here in Canada.
univ, you might want to rephrase that question to include the writ that is being dropped in bc in two days…that is the focus, nice try though!
This is great we now have a true Donkeys back side head of the libral party. When J.T was in town got to see some of this guys true colors he treated people around him like thy are nothing and thy are his personal slaves. He puts on a great face for the public I sure hope his true nature shows before he ever leads the country as prime ministers of canada
Middle finger, he’s Pierre Trudeau’s son. That’s all he’s got. Why they would give the leadership to a man who’s got about two years as an MP is beyond me. It takes far more than charisma to make a good PM.
Ruez, actually he has been a member of parliament since 2008, but hey, your mind is made up already.
The west will get screwed hard if the Liberals get in under Trudeau. Gees ,that’s 4 clowns in a row if you count Bob Rae. I might have voted for Joyce Murray, but not JT
“It takes far more than charisma to make a good PM.”
I agree 100%. That is why we have not had a good PM for a while. Blue eyes thinks he has charisma. That’ll be shot down pretty quickly.
Give Trudeau a little while and he will bury Harpo in the Legislature. ;-)
from the article linked below:
“An extraordinary Nanos poll published Friday, for instance, found 30% of Canadians found Trudeau âthe most inspiring leader,â a figure that was more than Stephen Harper and Thomas Mulcairâs scores put together. And he wasnât even leader yet.”

His is not an easy task. He has to undo 10 years of poor management of the party. It will take more than just Trudeau. But he is the right person for the task.
“The west will get screwed hard”
So do something about it. Quit voting the other party. Besides, Alberta can defend itself. So learn how it is done.
BTW, whatever happened to the billion dollar MPB bail out prmised by Harper?
BC has to smarten up. If you look like you are a pushover, you are a pushover.
So has pretty face ever said anything of substance?
Not really. Everyone is in the love-in phase with him now. That will pass.
Seamut: “So has pretty face ever said anything of substance?”
You can contrast Justine Trudeau to Christy Clark. She is a babe for her age but did her good looks and smile help her to run the province? Trudeau doesn’t even have the Ministerial experience of her and her Radio debate/experience.
In a very short period, Christy Clark transformed from Jeane-d’ark of BC Liberal party – promising us to liberate the Liberals from forces of the dark and corruption – into a “Gordon Campbell in skirt” and herself did join the dark forces. A join-dark in opposition to a Jeane-d’arc.
[the climax paragraph]
Traudeau should learn a lesson and not turn into a “Christy Clark in pants”.
;-)
I think he probably represents more of the country than most.
His father was french and scottish, and from Quebec, his mother is from Vancouver.
I hope that the Liberal party under Trudeau will listen more to it’s members, and caucus than the Conservative party does.
One man shouldn’t make the government.
I think Justin Trudeau will do just fine. I like him. He’s been in the Commons for a while. He shows he isn’t scared to stand up to the Tories. I know I am tired of these conservative stiffs. He showed us he isn’t afraid to take the gloves off literally and even win. The thing is we need strong Liberal candidates here in Prince George. People that are young and progressive. Not men and women stuck in a 19th century ideology. A man that can deliver us from the neo con thinking. They have and are building a strong party. Having Marc Garneau for example at his side is a good start. The only reason why C.R.A.P is in power is because nobody votes in Canada. With that, it allowed big business and corporations to run the show for so long. Be nice to have a party represent all of Canada for a change.
Trudeau Mania all over again? Slim chance. Pretty boy charm? That won’t win me over to run the country. Memories of Trudeau on the train giving us the salute as he headed back to Quebec. No thanks. Justin has a long way to go to be seriously considered for the top job in Canada.
