Prince George, B.C. – They lined up early, and were prepared to wait as Antiques Appraiser Theodore Pappas brought his own version of “Antiques Road Show” to Prince George.
It is a fund raising event that started yesterday and will continue today at the Art Space upstairs from Books and Company from 10-4.
Theodore Pappas III is providing his appraisal services in a fundraising event for Huble Homestead.
For $10 per item, he will tell you as much about the item as he can, and put a value on it. For an extra $5 dollars he will write the official appraisal for you for insurance purposes.

The first day provided some interesting finds. One musician brought in two Dobro guitars and a Gibson banjo, (in photo at right) estimated value, $2-$3 thousand each. Then there was the set of books, “Memoirs of U.S. Grant” the two volume set had been picked up for $2 dollars at a local book sale, Pappas valued the pair of books at $350.
“It’s all pretty interesting” says Pappas as he prepared to examine everything from jewellery to paintings to depression glass “ It’s like a slot machine at the casino, you just never know what’s coming.”
One of the things that was a pleasant surprise was a Chinese champagne bucket with stand. The owner had picked it up for $100 dollars at a garage sale in Vancouver. Pappas says the piece was made between 1910 and 1920 . He said with a little spit and polish, that bucket and stand should be insured for $800- $1,000.
And then there was the collection of autographs. The signatures, collected since the mid 1940’s, included signed photos of numerous stars, including Dorothy Lamour, Sammy Davis Junior, plain autographs of Nat King Cole, Roy Rogers, Tex Ritter, Johnny Cash and Hank Snow.
Huble Homestead covers Pappas’ expenses, but Huble Homestead will benefit from all proceeds once the modest expenses are covered. The funds will be used for programs and maintenance at Huble Homestead.
