No Takers for Enbridge Kalamazoo Tour

Prince George, B.C. – Enbridge has offered an all expenses info tour to members of the Regional District of Fraser Fort George.
Directors were invited to join them on a tour in Marshall, Michigan, to see the clean up of Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River.
In July of 2010, more than 800 thousand gallons of oil leaked from and Enbridge pipeline into Talmadge Creek, which feeds into the Kalamazoo River. About 40 miles of the Kalamazoo were fouled by the leak.
Just last month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ordered Enbridge to dredge portions of the Kalamazoo to remove “submerged oil”. The EPA says the dredging would prevent the submerged oil from travelling downstream to areas where it would be “more difficult or impossible to recover.”
The EPA expected the dredging to start this spring. The order also called on Enbridge to “maintain sediment traps throughout the river to capture accumulations of oil outside the dredge areas.”
Although invited to be Enbridge’s guest on the all expenses paid tour, not one of the Regional District Directors indicated they had any interest in taking advantage of the offer.
A similar letter was sent to the Chair of the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako. There were no takers on that offer either.

Three years later and they are still cleaning it up? The Stuart/Nechako/Fraser rivers can’t be risked! Go away Enbridge!!!
Wonder why no one offered is going on the tour?
What? And get their facts first-hand? They have the lies and hearsay from the CBC and David Suzuki they need!
Bang on, gamblor.
gamblor@”lies and hearsay”? You mean there was no spill in Michigan? The pictures are photoshopped? Or do you mean that they cleaned it up right away? David Suzuki just made up the court order, the existence of which is easily checked. (Hint: US federal court decisions and orders are all available on-line in the PACER system.)
Gamblor nailed it – it speaks volumes about the mind set when there is no interest in learning, researching, exploring options etc. It is quite dissappointing in fact.
If they went on the tour paid by Enbridge and then voted for the pipe line they would be seen as in conflict of interest.
There are hours of video online showing exactly how Enbridge attempted to clean up the Kalamazoo spill. In areas claimed to be oil free all you have to do is dig through the dirt and fabric Enbridge layed down that is covering the oil that remains there.
Same thing with the Exxon Valdez disaster. Go to any beach that was impacted by that spill and dig.
No need to go on a propaganda tour with those who would risk destoying our environment in the name of money.
“If they went on the tour paid by Enbridge and then voted for the pipe line they would be seen as in conflict of interest. “
Regional District directors don’t have a vote on the pipeline. What are you talking about?
Yes, they can’t vote on the pipeline, but they do represent the people of the regional district and Enbridge is hoping that they could change our attitude to the pipe line. So if they started to support it we would say they were in conflict of interest as they were paid and bought by Enbridge.
So, instead of seeing the site firsthand and letting people make up their own minds, you’re more comfortable if people believe stuff they see on Youtube. I see.
“There are hours of video online showing exactly how Enbridge attempted to clean up the Kalamazoo spill”
I can also watch hours of video on the internet that states the earth is flat, your point is?
All of the 800,000 gallons were recovered from the environment, not a single gallon is missing. They were tagged, labelled and stored where they can be seen! Why not go and have a look at them instead of believing CBC, David Suzuki and YouTube deceptions?
(just kidding…).
The greatest expense is their time, which is better spent serving constituents here at home than traveling the world to see a well-orchestrated parade serving corporate shills abroad.
Enbridge spill aside, this would be a sad and polluted world if not for the likes of Rachel Carson, David Suzuki, david Schnidler and others at least keeping us aware of our poisoning the planet. They all should be commended.Enbridge pipeline is just another accident awaiting to happen.
“I can also watch hours of video on the internet that states the earth is flat, your point is?”
Seriously, you’re comparing the oil spill into the Kalamazoo to contentions that the earth is flat? With that level of idiocy, no effort to get at the truth will pay off.
And, yes, pg66 is right: receiving the gifts of all-expenses paid trips from corporations to the oil spill site for those in public office is a conflict of interest, no question about it.
actually my point was that you kind find anything on the internet, but that doesnt necessarily make it the absolute truth – thanks for playing though
If I was in the regional district I would say sure we will take the tour in the name of education as soon as Enbridge funds Environment Canada to do studies on how tar sands oil sinks in fresh water, which Enbrdgie and the Harper government refuse to do as part of the review process.
So if its all about education then lets get the scientific peer reviewed studies done first and stop trying to obfuscate the situation.
If I get a part-time job at the RDFFG will Enbridge take me part way there? I need a holiday.
Right on Gamblor. It would be an excellent opportunity for any politician to learn first hand about what happened and what Enbridge did about it. In fact, any politician, especially Dix should go tour an actual pipeline construction job to see just how new pipelines are constructed. Would be an incredible eye opener for those interested in learning.
Let the people near Kalamazoo take them on a tour!
Ya, videos showing groups of people digging up oil purposely buried by Enbridge clean up crews is not to be believed. But anyone that will benefit from the sale of oil are to be believed at all times.
Yeah, why should Enbridge bother trying to change the minds and perceptions of people who think they know everything.
