Liberals Say NDP Sending Mixed Messages to Business In B.C.

Tuesday, April 23, 2013 @ 3:55 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The local Liberals are detecting a contradiction in the message from the New Democrats on the matter of corporate donations.

On the weekend, the Liberals called for the resignation of the New Democrats Provincial Secretary Jan O’Brien because of the letter which they say is no more than a "shakedown".   In a copy  obtained by 250News , the letter says "Between 2009 and 2012  (business name)  has contributed significantly to the BC Liberals totaling, $18,000.  It is our hope that you will adopt a balanced approach to your support in the lead up to the election may."

The letter goes on to say "I am asking your organization to make a contribution  in the range of $5,000 now to show your committment  to a balanced government."

Minister of Jobs Tourism and Skills training, Pat Bell is not seeking re-election however, he says the letter contradicts a message that was sent out just a few days later. “On the one hand, they have sent this letter around calling for a minimum of $5 thousand dollars from business” says Bell, “but just five days later, they issue a note that they plan to eliminate union and corporate donations because "The influence of big money continues to hurt our democracy". So what are they really trying to say here,   ‘we will cancel  corporate donations but not until after your cheque clears?”

The Liberals have been calling the letters a “shakedown”. New Democrat leader Adrian Dix says there is no such intent, but admits his team has been seeking  corporate donations. He  is quoted as saying “But if anyone is concerned about it I would be happy to talk to them because there is absolutely, absolutely no intent as suggested by the Liberal party or others."

The Liberals have been shaking down the tax payers for 8 years.

This is so funny, the Libs worry the NDP after their money bag and call it a shake down. They have been doing it for years and agree doneright only problem we cant say no they just take it

I guess the Liberals must be really desperate if this nonsense is all they can focus on as their election campaign. There is no contradiction.

The Liberals ask businesses for money and the NDP ask businesses for money. So what! It is perfectly legal to do so. Their letters always suggest an amount, so that is quite usual. The differe3nce is that the NDP has, right up front, told everybody that they will make business and union donations illegal when elected to remove any suggestion that large donations buy elections.

The reason the Liberals are up in arms, of course, is that they rely heavily on corporate donations for their income since much less money is donated by individual citizens. Self serving nonsense is what it is.

HST
12% transfer tax
BC rail
Ethnicgate
Bollywood
2.5 billion dollar deficit

And the Liberals have the audacity to question the tactics of the NDP. Since when did they take the high and mighty road?

Adrian Dix.

’nuff said.

Talking of shakedowns, when they were first elected didn’t the Liberals ask for large donations, specifying the amount if businesses wanted to get personal access to government Ministers? I seem to remember there was such an outcry they were forced to back off.

Doesn’t criticizing the NDP for being open and honest about what they intend to do regarding business and union donations, when they have used a practice like this to get corporate money in their coffers, make the Liberals hypocrites?

More Liberal and media BS.

Oh, oh , the spin, the spin.

Bye,bye Shirley, lol Bond what a joke! Lol the only Bond I know is in a movie.
