Prince George- A large excavator has been brought to the scene of a fire earlier today that all but destroyed the northwest corner  of Highglen School.
The fire will be completely extinguished as access is made to the building by the heavy equipment.
One firefighter was taken to hospital with a minor injury, but apart from that injury no other person was injured in the blaze.
Firefighters were also able to rescue several animals from various classrooms , including birds, Rabbits and lizards..

Just being curious; does anybody know if the school had a fire sprinkler system?

No I have been in it many times and did not note one.

Thanks for the slideshow. I’m glad nobody was hurt.

Give me a fckin break here, the first two posters I gotta shake my head at and I’ll call out “monkeyboots” When the school was built fire suppression was a part of the building code. Maybe you should open your eyes and look around the place when you are there!

FWIW I attended Ron Brent before it was Ron Brent and there were fire suppression systems in place way back then!

Good thing no one was hurt. I would guess a sprinkler system would have played a big part in that. Being that the building was made out of brick and would have had a sprinkler system, one would hope it would not be to hard to rebuild?

The schools are the hart of community subdivisions in PG and we’ve lost to many already to closures and downsizing. It would be a shame if Highglen was not rebuilt.
