Friday Free for All – April 26th, 2013

Friday, April 26, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

This is the last Friday in April, and there are still many parts of the City that still have  lots of snow on the ground.

The goods news?  The hummingbirds  are back!  They have been spotted  in the  West end of P.G. as well as  the Hart, so,  it is  time to put those feeders up!

So, besides the election, what is on  your mind  today?    It is time for  the FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL,  your  opportunity to speak up  on the matters that  have struck a chord with you ( yes, even those positive chords).

You pick the topic, but  obey the simple rules:

Keep it clean

Keep it legal

No bullying of others

Bye bye Gordons minions

Just like to say a kudos to Target for their most excellent use of wood for the new store design at Pine Center. That was well thought out and I’m sure will be much appreciated by the people of PG.

Locating the loading bays on the front of the store however, wasn’t such a great idea however. I can see that being a problem when the parking lot is busy, to say nothing of the eye sore it will become.

The new terror law is being fast forwarded just in time for an economic collapse. With the housing bubble bursting with higher interest rates on the horizon its all about timing.

Surely there should be some checks and balances to ensure the new rules are not abused for political control at a future date?

Harper for all intents and purposes even hypothetically if he is not a totalitarian, who is to say he hasn’t built a great foundation for a future would be totalitarian.

“The canada I grew up in is gone”

No kidding!!!

Well the world I grew up in is gone…..

We mow live in a world where fanatical terrorists partake in a “holy jihad” against what they consider “infidels”. and walk amongst us ready, willing and able to murder, maim, and terrorize with bombs, poison gas, and whatever else their sick minds can dream up.

So “a_britishcolumbian” thinks that the new anti-terrorism laws are an infringement on his personal life????

Sorry buster, but I think the sick bastards out there trying to terrorize the world are an infringement on my family”s lives, and I am fully supportive of any and all laws that will enable the authorities to seek and destroy them.

I think if you ask anyone, or their mourning families injured or killed by the Boston Marathon bombing incident, they would tell you to take your “oppressive, dictatorial regime” BS and stick it where the sun don’t shine. Matter of fact, I think the majority of your fellow Canadians would tell you the same thing.

And your “beware of the RCMP because they can abduct and torture you” indicates that you have been reading just one too many “conspiracy theory” articles, and I suggest that next time you find yourself in a dire position of danger…you might want to call one of our local gang members from “the hood” top help you out.

Finally, I would suggest that you take just a little more time thinking about how good you actually have it here in Canada….no country is perfect, but I’ll take it over any other in a nano second.

So my message to you my friend is simple….if you really believe all that crap about what you read in the Vancouver Sun, and you just can’t take it anymore….

Maybe you want to get yourself a one way ticket to Afganistan or some other safe country where you wont feel “oppressed”

And don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

If I could pick the most important political issue for this provincial election I would rank the top three in the following order:

#1 Clear opposition to Harper’s FIPA investment deal with China that allows for third party foreign tribunals to rule over our democracy to protect Chinese investments in a deal that is not reciprocity and is designed to blackmail BC with the full cost of a lost investment by China into the Northern Gateway project. This is clear outright treason to allow a law like this to violate our constitutional rights, and is a threat to every province and municipality in the country from making sovereign democratic decisions that would protect domestic interests from communist Chinese state owned corporations.

#2 Repeal of the carbon tax for home heating and auto fuel, especially from a northern resident perspective, therefor northern MLA’s should be speaking out for the North? Why not an export tax on off shore exports instead? We need a domestic energy policy that favors the domestic economy and not handcuffs.

#3 The repeal of the legislation that enables municipalities to use the Alternate Approval Project to pay for special interest projects without proper democratic process. To rein in municipal governments we need the provincial legislation amended to respect the democratic standards home owners expect should be tied to their property tax obligations.

I don’t expect any of these issues to be discussed because we don’t have a real democracy. We have an oligopoly of party insiders making policy behind closed doors, and our MLA’s are mere messengers out to sell us their party orders to gain legitimacy from an election based on fluff and not real pressing issues of the day.

Time Will Tell

Sounds like gimmeabreak would like to live in China rather than Canada. I for one think the rule of law is what protects us, and not unaccountable use of police powers. That’s the country my ancestors fought world wars to build.

a little bit of arsenic in your meat and potatoes will eventually kill you. this parallels the passage of c-45 and other omnibus bills.
the combating terrorism act contravenes basic human rights.
a police state only serves the regime.

If the ndp is truly against the Northern Gateway Pipeline then the should come out forcefully against the Chinese FIPA deal… otherwise they are in effect agreeing to pay the Chinese to make the pipeline deal go away and should have that factored into their budget.

The rights of the province under the constitution should not be bargained away by the regime in Ottawa without provincial consent. The Supreme Court has ruled in provincial favor before and this FIPA deal should be before the courts to show Harper he doesn’t have the authority to negotiate away inherent rights to the province under the constitution.

King Harper and the Conservative Alliance Reform Party (CRAP); are running scared of J.T. Why else would they be running attack ads 2 years before an election.

Looked outside… The sky is not falling

Just when I think Harper and his goon squad have hit the bottom, they always manage to find a new low.

His pet lizard, MacKay has recently announced that our troops, who are still stuck in Afghanistan, will have their danger pay reduced. Not only that, there were going to make them pay back some of the danger pay they had already received.

Due to public backlash through the media, they have retracted this payback, but the pay cut stands.

So these bozos running our country are willing to spend $35B on unproven jet fighters yet there’s no money in the kittie to help out our boys on the ground that are still getting shot at in northern Afghanistan?

I shake my head with utter disgust.

Did MacKay get danger pay when he went fishing off of one of the armed forces helicopters?

Gimmeabreak, well said. I did get a chuckle out of abritishcolumbian’s post, but then some people haven’t seen much tragedy.

Yes gimmeabreak…

Great post and I completely agree with you.

I have always told people. I’d rather live in Canada and complain about our taxes than anywhere else in the world. No place is perfect but Canada is definitely one of the best!

YUP… I’m staying *smiles*

Just read an interesting article from an American blog site. Ever since 9/11 with all the new security measures; you are 8X more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist!

Denaljo,

How many lives have terrorists saved in the goo ole USofA as compared to the police?

With reference to the above posts concerning terrorists:
“Eternal vigilence is the price of freedom”
metalman.

Canada – love it or leave it. There are planes, boats, trains and cars that can help you find a better place to live if you don’t like it here in Canada. No place is perfect, but Canada is a lot less imperfect than any other place in the world.

If all of my travels have convinced me of anything, Canada is by far the best place in the world to live.

We should be thankful of what we have here.

Hey folks here something to think about…life wasn’t so bad when this WAS Mr. Rogers neighborhood.

Hey Lonesome, good post. I have noticed the poster you mentioned for a long time now. He also recently theorized that Mossad agents were behind the Boston bombings.

I for one am very glad Mr Rogers is no longer mayor.

Isn’t it a beautiful day in the neighborhood… Now Gladstone becoming a Choice School, guess City will once again hang up the school signs there on the road. Maybe Haldi Elementary was too much for them. Not enough services?? Would be educational , being out in the wilderness.

Spring time.. ENJOY the beautiful weather we’re getting.. Certainly beats the snow.. Nice to have warm weather again.

The FPP voting system versus the STV voting system – discussion…

Remember, this is my opinion only.

I have heard a lot of comments about how none of the parties will form a good government and how all politicians are liars. It’s difficult to change people but I believe we can do something about it.

It starts with our voting system. The “first past the post” or FPP, “winner take all” style of elections promotes poor government because a party with 40% of the popular vote can will a large majority in the legislature and have majority of MLA’s elected. The federal government is the same. This system often (but not always) ends up creating a 2 party political competition (think of America). If you go back through the history of BC elections you will see for 3 or 4 decades just the two main parties being NDP and Socred’s and now in the recent 2 decades NDP and Liberal.

I recommend going to “the single transferable vote” or the STV. The STV would result in a much more proportional representation of each party and as a result a majority government would almost never happen. This would keep politicians more accountable as they would have to work with other parties to pass legislation. Thus a right or a left hand government would have to appease the other side and make concessions to pass legislation.

During the 2009 provincial election, there was a electoral reform referendum proposed along with the provincial election to bring in the STV. This was defeated. However I believe the main reason for this defeat was simply inadequate information regarding the system. Too many people didn’t understand it so they went with the safety of the known method.

Currently Ireland (since 1921), the UK, and Australia use the STV for all major government bodies and it is being experimented with in more countries as people see the value in it.

The STV has a history in BC however most people don’t know about it. In 1952 when the Socred’s won their first election, the minority victory was because of what was called an alternative voting system or preferential ballot, similar to the STV. The ruling Conservative/Liberal Coalition thought this voting system would enable them to keep the socialist CCF (future NDP) from winning. But this system enabled the Socred’s to come from behind and surprise everyone. However WAC Bennet changed the voting system to the FPP we currently have soon after the Socred’s were in power.

I believe it’s time to take a look at the voting system currently in place to decide if it’s democratic. A change will not fix all of our problems but I think it would create a far more representative government which would benefit all citizens.

Thoughts?

I heard Shirley Bond on the radio the other day saying what a privilege it is that we Canadians/British Columbians can vote. I just about choked. What about the privilege you Minister Bond had in being voted in? You and the BC Liberals abused that privilege by allowing Gordon Campbell to unilaterally impose the HST following an election that made no mention of it. That is not democracy.
I will not be voting this election – the BC Liberals do not deserve my vote (and the NDP will never get it).

lbear: “I will not be voting this election – the BC Liberals do not deserve my vote (and the NDP will never get it).”

I’m not sure what you hope to accomplish. Not only is it a slap in the face to the men and women who fought and died for the right, but all you do is give the people who do show up to vote more power.

Pylot Project you either are not keeping up with the news or you are deliberately leaving the facts out. A bureaucrat came up with the idea of the hazard pay cut and claw back which was immediately reversed when McKay and the PMO’s office got wind of it.

Apparently UN doesn’t agree that Canada is the best and that is why it is sending 3 of UN to come and check human rights in Canada:

http://news.nationalpost.com/2013/04/26/harper-government-grants-un-rapporteurs-permission-to-probe-canadas-human-rights-record/

I won’t be surprised if they come to BC and Prince George. “…ton we have a problem.”

gimmeabreak right on, the posters criticizing you most likely would have loved that piece of work Mansbridge interview with JT on the Boston terrorist attach where JT more or less said he would get in touch with the cold blooded murderers feeling. It was a sickening interview, the usual touchy feely questions from Mansbridge and touch feely answers from JT. Both are vacant as a vacuum.

Is there a Mrs. Dix? (not his mom) If there is, shouldn’t she be helping him with his campaign?

How about a comment from the editor on why post from 8:09 am was removed?

It was clean

It was legal

It showed a pattern of bullying

Any word on the cause of the Highglenn fire?

Q. How many Christy Clark Liberals does it take to change a burned out lightbulb?

A.1 – None. They are afraid of change and would rather live in darkness.

A. 2 – None. They would rather live in darkness and blame the NDP.

A.3 – None. They would rather lie and say they changed it and raise your taxes to say that they will change more bulbs.

If you want to see something fall apart vote NDP they gave lesson last time. I guess if you vote them in we get another lesson.
Some people think to not vote will show them or vote for another of the parties just gets the government you don’t want in. Suck it up and vote for what you know not what is a credit card dept. Comes with High interest

Here is an interesting read on the Boston terror attach

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2013/04/25/america-has-gone-from-melting-pot-to-pressure-cooker/

JohnnyBelt – the key to a good campaign is getting out as many of your voters as you can. My not voting this election is a form of protest. Sure no one will notice, but at least I have had the satisfaction of not helping the Liberals get one more mandate. Which I am pretty sure they’re not going to anyway.

seamutt, I realize that it ruffles your Conservative feathers but get serious. Do you honestly believe that Harper and MacKay did not know about this cut in hazard pay to our soldiers? Harper runs his ship with a very large and tight iron fist. Nothing goes ahead without his say so.

There was no motion for retraction until it was made available to public scrutiny. Suddenly they become warm and fuzzy when public opinion goes sour?

Give me a break.

The UN there is one corrupted money sucking organization. Why don’t they send these investigators over to Syria to investigate the gassing?

lonesome,

this is a private site, the owners of the site can remove any post they want. Your only choice is to continue to post or not.

“I like to refer to good old Uncle Albert . . . whose nephew for whatever reason is suspected of some kind of terrorist act. Because they can’t find the nephew, the police come to Uncle Albert’s door and put him in jail, for a day.”
“Then [they] take him before a judge and argue that Uncle Albert might know where the nephew is so we can’t let Uncle Albert have any more guns. We can’t let Uncle Albert leave the country because we have to be able to interrogate [him] … The police don’t suspect him of any terrorism. He just happens to be the uncle of the nephew whom they do suspect.”
Sullivan concluded that Uncle Albert, who lives on a farm and needs his rifles to keep away animal intruders, would, understandably, balk at these conditions.
What would happen then, the NDP MP said, is that the authorities would put Albert in jail for a year.
It wouldn’t be because Uncle Alberta is suspected of association with terrorism. It would be, as Sullivan put it, “because he’s related to somebody the police are only investigating.”
Guilt by association is, in fact, the ‘policy intent’
http://rabble.ca/blogs/bloggers/karl-nerenberg/2013/04/targets-anti-terrorism-bill-s-7-could-include-innocent-bystand

and maybe Uncle Albert is hiding his terrorist kin on the farm and supplying them with guns?

3 sides to every story.

lbear: “My not voting this election is a form of protest. Sure no one will notice, but at least I have had the satisfaction of not helping the Liberals get one more mandate.”

It’s not a ‘protest’, it’s more like a cop-out. If you don’t vote, then don’t complain.

Not voting is abdicating a civic duty and responsibility.
If you don’t want to vote liberal, don’t.
If you want to “not helping the Liberals get one more mandate,” then vote for someone else.
That will be more of a statement than not voting. Not voting assures that someone else will make your choice for you. Are you sheeple or people?
Same with spoiling the ballot, it is a cowardly cop out.
If you don’t want to vote liberal or NDP or conservative, then vote green or at least an independent.

Voting is not a right, it is the duty of every citizen in a democratic society.

In regards to the Carbon tax rip off that the Fibs and NDP keep pushing and the Conservatives will cancel. Even if all the failed Kyoto Protocol counties would achieve their C02 reduction goals the net result would still be zero. Why, because of the increasing C02 production from China and India.

Anyhow there has been no measurable effect on global warming or climate change following recent level changes in atmospheric C02.

We have been taken for a ride and are paying dearly for it.

Loki – thank you for your concern and comments.
JohnnyBelt – were you a bully as a child too?

With regard to the anti-terrorism measures, while I agree that terrorism an and other manifestations of Islamism should be vigorously opposed, the question is what measures are appropriate. There is a clear history of governments adopting measures that impair civil liberties but do little or nothing to improve security. A prominent example is the use of torture by the Bush administration in the US, in violation of both US and international law, which appears not to have produced any improvement in security. The Harper government hasn’t even offered an argument that there is an urgent need for the measures in its anti-terrorism bill, which appears to have been rushed through so as to avoid scrutiny rather than out of urgency. By all means let’s prevent terrorism, but let’s do so effectively and in ways that minimize the violation of civil liberties.

Must have been a real gooder. Good enough for deletion. Couldn’t have been a bullying type of comment could it?

Summer is coming..the weather is getting better, golf courses soon to be open, restaurants getting their patios ready.

LIfe in PG is pretty good dont ya think ? :)

lbear: “JohnnyBelt – were you a bully as a child too?”

It’s very easy to throw the ‘bully’ label around these days. Almost to the point where it has no meaning anymore.

Bulling has always mostly been associated with school children. People are finally starting to realize bullying for what it is. It is everywhere and practiced by all ages

DM…There was no bullying, I simply pointed out that one person has been posting thinly veiled anti-Semitic ramblings and rants(c/w examples) for years with impunity.

Carefull billposer, there are those lurking here that don’t like the BCCLA.

Some people seem to think that if you have three stooges running for office, you are compelled to vote for one of the stooges, even if by doing so, you are putting a dummy into a position of screwing up your Country.

We go too far with this idea that we must vote. There has to be some pressure put on society to run Political parties and candidates that warrant our votes. If elected representatives had the gonads to look after the needs of their constituents, rather than of their political supporters, we would have a much fairer and democratic system.

Voting for a fool and a knave, makes you a fool and a knave.

For those people who feel compelled to blame all the problems in Canada on Harper, please carry on with you inane quibbling.

Harper would have to be the worlds greatest micro manager to be responsible for everything he is accused of.

Take some time out and enjoy the peace and tranquility of a majority Government, compliments of the voters of Canada, Harper, and all those who ran for the Conservatives in the last election.

Nice to see city crews and YRB crews out cleaning up the streets,,the place is starting to look pretty good. I cannot wait till the line-painting starts.

News stories are telling shoppers to read the label on clothing they wish to purchase and see the origin of where it was created. Loblaws was associated with ties to sweatshops in Bangladesh. Yesterday, I went to Superstore and just took a quick look at labels. Most were made in Cambodia and China, I did not find a label linked to Bangladesh. I am sure they are there, I just had a limited amount of time to look.

I try to purchase “made in” Canada or the USA. I pay a bit more, but ethically I believe it is the right thing to do, judging by the sweat shops responsible for so many deaths in Bangladesh.

I think the days of comments being allowed on this site may be coming to an end.Followed by the demise of the site itself.

IMHO of course.

“Don’t blame me. I voted for Kodos”

Paranoid ? A Terrorist around every Corner.
Let’s keep it all in Perspective . Lets face it ,the larger the Place is where you live ,the more Idiots you have!

Okay, enough of the political stuff–
Here’s a lighter note–the hummingbirds are back!!

Bullying gonna become the “go to” word after the word racism gets worn out by those who disagree with you? Sigh! I love the English language.

“willyj…I cannot wait till the line-painting starts.”

Too true. My daughter just got her learners licence. As she was driving down 15th Ave from Central to Ospika it was pretty difficult to explain to her which lane she should be in. Especially with the turning lanes that have no makings at all.
Pot holes seem a lot better this year than last.

“By all means let’s prevent terrorism, but let’s do so effectively and in ways that minimize the violation of civil liberties”

Where is the violation of civil liberties? Any actions under this law are automatically under judicial review. There is no black hole a person disappears into.

If your kid is blown up, legs ripped off your fuzzy wuzzy views will most likely change.

Pylot Project, harper must be some god like figure to have his pulse on every last detail in his government. Do you really believe Harper and Mckay dreamed up this pay cut, really.

Someone was doing their job looking for ways to cut spending that is what you would want I hope. I this case it went too far, brought to the PMO’s attention and cancelled. This person mistakenly thought since the troops are no longer in direct military action their risk was over. Oversight corrected, move on.

I think the word bullying may be starting to replace the word “harassement”.

We have laws about harassment in the work place. Nothing about it on the internet yet, I believe. We are, however, starting to see the extreme effects of harassment and bullying on the internet, so maybe there will be some laws coming which are enforceable in a virtual environment.

Billposers question…what measures are appropriate to control terrorism???

My answer….Whatever it takes…period!

gimmeabreak “whatever it takes” what does that mean? you are willing to give up your rights and freedoms? you re willing to start wars? and kill innocent people in order to get at terrorists? whatever it takes? when is too far? when do we become the terrorists?

‘What ever it takes’, is exactly what the NWO banksters want to hear. A few false flag patsies here and there and presto everyone lives in a police state controlled by the elite bankers at the top of the world order.

I’m sure this is what they thought in Germany 1930’s as well when the Reichstag burnt down. Look where that kind of mentality led them.

”If your kid is blown up, legs ripped off your fuzzy wuzzy views will most likely change.”

Exactly ….. it is because no matter which of many factions in the world one belongs to, most people believe the same. Everyone is acting on the biblical principle of an “eye for an eye”. The problem is that many people do not understand others and their desires.

Thus we, as members of the human race, will continue to take what, in a “civilized society” used to be reserved for the traditional battlefield to the general population.

Remember, those who used to be called partisans, freedom fighters, guerillas, etc. are now called terrorists. I think it is the effect of global communication. If you can’t make your point in your own country, carry it to those other countries that have their fingers in the global pie and have a superior system of open communication to bring the feeling of “terror” to the far reaches of the earth.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Mahatma Gandhi, (attributed)

Eagleone, I too would like to see our provincial government take a stand against the Fed’s deal with China (FIPA). I don’t understand why we are not hearing more about it in our news sources.

I would like to compliment the parents of Highglen School and the spirit they are showing in getting the schooling for children back together again. I have seen Facebook pages about fundraising and replenishing teachers’ supplies and love that they are taking action and cleaning up the school grounds up in College Heights. Way to set a great example for your children (and the rest of the community).

Does anyone know if there is a place in town that will take old gas for recycling/disposal?

I have a jerry can from a few summers ago, but am not sure where to take it.

Keep it in yer car/truck. Most service stations now IMO won’t lend you theirs in case you run out of gas. A new law, bylaw or company policy. Paint it nice.

dan – assuming it is a full jerry can that is sealed so condensation is not an issue I would have no problem adding it in to any newer car or truck in a small percentage with new fuel. Example, 80 litre tank 3/4 full, pour in 10 litres and dont lose any sleep.
(unless its marine fuel in which case you didnt pay road tax on it and that would be illegal) ;)

oh wait – now that I read Harbs post, do you have a jerry can, or a jerry can full of fuel? LOL

To many connection of the Tsarnaev family to Mossad to discount it as a possible foreign false flag event IMO. Our civil rights shouldn’t be part of the collateral damage when one looks closely at the big picture.

What we do know as fact as reported in the London Sunday Times on May 8th 2011 is that Uncle Ruslan Tsarni was a key figure in paying Prince Andrew $5 million more than the asking price to buy his home.

That is a direct tie between the Tsarni family and the Royal family.

The purchase was done on behalf of Kazakh billionaire Oligarch Timur Kulibayev who is married to Kazakh autocratic President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s daughter Goga Ashkenazi (ie zionist)… all of which are helped in power by Mossad and enjoy strong relations to Israel as a place of economic protection.

Kulibayev laundered the money for the purchase through a network of offshore oil companies of which Uncle Ruslan was the executive. This information became public in a lawsuit from Kazakhstan involving another Kazakh billionaire oligach Mukhtar Ablyazov who was implicated in a $6 billion dollar embezzlement from BTA Bank.

The Sunday Times reports Uncle Ruslan testified in London’s High Court in December alleging the money to buy Prince Andrews home came from a complex series of deals that involved a take over of a Western Company used as a front to obtain oil contracts from the Kazakh state. The Western oil company was called Big Sky Energy Corporation where Ruslan was the top executive. Big Sky is now defunct and was sold to top Halliburton Executive S.A. Sehsuraroglu who now hold the rights to Caspian Sea basin oil rights in Kasakhstan.

Mr Tsarni was a USAID asset in the former soviet central republics tasked with infiltrating the region for western corporations from as far back as 1994 and later served as legal affairs for Golden Eagle Partners LLC… a known mossad front company. Information provided by Platts Oilgram News a publication that keeps tabs on regional oil developments claims Big Sky was a shady company where good corporate governance was not something it was known for. All of these companies and actors were on the Platts watch list for intelligence connections and various kinds of pay offs.

The Tsarnaev family also lived right next door to infamous Chechen crime boss Aziz Batukaev while in Tokmok Kyrgyzstan, while Aziz Batukaev was in hiding from Putin’s FSB accused of being a Western assisted troublemaker. Probably the reason the Russians alerted the FBI and the CIA to the potential trouble of the Tsarnaev boys. As reported by Radio Free Europe Kyrgyz Service correspondent Timur Toktonaliev.

So we have family connections to Halliburton executives, suspected CIA and Mossad front companies and actors, Chechnyan crime bosses, oligarchs steeling billions from state banks, and money laundering to buy Prince Andrews home…

Uncle Ruslan says the boys were radicalized by a mystery Misha character no one seems able to identify. The father and mother claim they were set up by intelligence agencies and there will be hell to pay if anything happens to their son. They also claim the family was ‘not religious’ and find it surprising that the brothers ‘adopted Islam’ as a radical outlook.

It should be obvious these were not just two lone wolf type terrorists, but rather well connected and apparently well funded to be able to afford the travel expenses to places like Kazakhstan at $20,000 each way per person. The intelligence circles they are tied to are the same ones that would like to see our civil liberties curtailed and in fact today are claiming Syria was using chemical weapons so as to prod America into another Middle East war for Israel.

So yes I am suspicious, and no I don’t think removing our civil liberties is the answer. We all seen what the forerunner to the Mossad did in the 1930’s Ukraine under their former Checka incarnation (35 million killed and the extermination of the Christian church). That is not the future I want for my children. these guys simply are not Islam funded terrorists, but it makes for a good media front to fit the agneda.

I think we the people are being played by terror and we better watch what we wish for because we have politicians that are all to compliant IMHO. Harpers new anti terror law fits right into the program of removing our civil liberties.

^^^^^^^^^ I rest my case from this morning!!!

Who is the “buller” and who is the “bullee” is relative and can change over time as the situation develops and/or unfolds. It is based on the points of view of the people involved and more objectively so from those observing. :-0

I didn’t see what you wrote, but I can assume. Thats why I wrote the above. Put some facts out there relating to the story and not the hearsay misrepresentation you are so good at.

if you want to support global terrorists than thats fine, but be upfront about it rather than trying to play the role of the good guy just trying to tear down someone that has an opinion of their own that isn’t shared by lonsome cheka sprout.

Lonesome a good book to educate yourself would be The Great Terror by Robert Conquest… or also The Origins of Totalitarianism by Hannah Arendt

It might open your eyes a little bit. A realization that evil does exist and it hasn’t simply gone away, but rather changed forms.

If you don’t want to educate yourself and be a defender of the kind of evil that Cheka represents then you are no better than them as an apologist for their crimes ignorant of human suffering.

IMHO

Can we shift the discussion to the intrigue of world dominance that the Catholic Church is involved with? The German Pope did not resign out due to health. Pope’s do not resign for health reasons.

Come on, Eagleone, gives us the theory of the Zionist connections please. People should be told the truth.

Gus, isn’t it amazing what the catholic religion has done “In the name of a god?”
How many young lives have been lost to suicide, drunkeness, mental illness, let alone robbing them of the chance to just be normal. The white smoke is a fart and another pope is born? How many gods have there been in the world since the beginning of time?
Makes me sick to think this particular religion still has a following.

Eagleone

What I posted this morning was a collection of your anti-Semitic posts and links. Last weekend you denied posting some of these and said the direct quotes were not yours and did not respond when I posted links to the original posts.

I suspect it was removed because I called the editors out to some extent for not deleting these Anti-Semitic posts.

And then there are people who just can’t handle the truth, or just plain scared of it.

Nice to see city crews and YRB crews out cleaning up the streets,,the place is starting to look pretty good. I cannot wait till the line-painting starts.”

Line painting usually gets underway in the fall, just in time for them to be covered with snow.

“gimmeabreak right on, the posters criticizing you most likely would have loved that piece of work Mansbridge interview with JT on the Boston terrorist attach where JT more or less said he would get in touch with the cold blooded murderers feeling. It was a sickening interview, the usual touchy feely questions from Mansbridge and touch feely answers from JT. Both are vacant as a vacuum”

Actually, no, that is not what JT said. What he did say was that the first thing to do would be to offer support, sympathy and condolences. He went on to say that he would make the offer of immediate material support, like we did after the 9/11 attacks. Finally, he indicated that he would try and ascertain the “root causes” of the attacks and he surmised that they were likely carried out by someone who felt completely excluded, who was at war with innocents or at war with our society.

We then get to hear Harper blast him for talking about root causes and just recently, he even went so far as to say that now is not a time to “practise sociology”, whatever the heck that means. Perhaps it’s because sociology is a science and Harper believes that science should be trumped by ideology as a means for evaluate situations and information? I really don’t know, it’s just a bizarre statement that makes no sense to me.

Soon after the attacks, we learn that the eldest brother was upset that he had “no American friends” and that he didn’t feel as though he fit in. Sounds sort of like sociology to me. Hmmm, that’s strange eh?

I also recall watching interviews with the Boston police and the FBI, indicating that they hoped the second brother would be taken alive so that they could interrogate him and try to establish his motive and the reasons why they planned the attacks. They indicated that this information could possibly be of use in thwarting future attacks. Now call me crazy, but this sounds an AWFUL lot like what JT was referring to when he talked about trying to determine the “root causes”.

So, if the people who were attacked see value in examining causes, as opposed to just burying their head in the sand and ignoring the fact that SOMETHING caused the brothers to set off those bombs, don’t you think that just perhaps there is some logic to it?

I saw the clippings where Harper blasted JT and then I watched the interview with Mansbridge. I was left with the impression that Harper was simply using taking points and trying to win a headline argument, whereas JT was actually thinking about what had happened and trying to use his brain to process what it all meant.

I’ll be perfectly honest. If we have a PM sitting in office who hasn’t ever contemplated WHY a terrorist organization may want to attack Canada (including the recent VIA rail plan), it also makes me wonder if the same person has ever contemplated why we need to conduct scientific research, why the economy may not be performing like it should, why we should pick certain trade partners over others, etc. If this characteristic isn’t disturbing, I don’t know what the heck is.

I’m flattered lonesome dodo. Saving my comments to others from over a year ago. Are you stalking me dodo?

Mind you, we also have a Minister of Natural Resources (who was an investment banker and who has an MBA), that somehow feels as though he is qualified to debate climate change with a man who holds a PhD and who was NASA’s top climate scientist at one point in his life.

Sounds about right, LOL.

DM Don’t be flattered…..look up…..look way up….. see the little box up there that says site search? By some form of magic there are THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of posts in that tiny little box.

dodo….actually it’s sparrow, another form of the aforementioned bullying? Could always add a suffix to Dragonmaster.

Gus if I was to speculate on the Pope… I would say his history of covering up priest pedophilia was hurting the church and he could operate better behind the scenes rather as the lightening rod he was.

Its no secrete the Catholic church has been infiltrated by all sorts of shady characters both in the finance aspect with church funds, and in the protection the church gives to evil doers in robe.

Personally I have faith in the teachings of historical Jesus the man, but not in the church, so I would be the last person to ask to defend the current church. The one to ask is the Popes butler who IMO instigated the fall of Benedict… and one day I’m sure it will all come out in the public. The Vatican long ago gave up its right to be the defender of the faith IMO.

Sorry NMG you missed the gist of the interview. JT wanting to be PM, scary.

Here is a joke, the useless UN with countries like China, Iran, North Korea, criticizing Canada’s human rights. Amazing, just amazing, but something JT most likely would agree with.

Actually I’m closer to the Pagan religion of the Greek in the sense that god is a notion of a higher ideal represented in qualities of character, both good and bad (angels of sorts)… but not so much as an actual person. I think the holy spirit is in all of us and through this we can ask for guidance, but it comes down to ones own morals and ethics what they will get out of prayer and who it is a person prays to. The idea of the one god is to set a limitation on man, so that no one man can claim to rule over all men. I believe that the ultimate limitation is the laws of creation and the universe itself, but the priori of moral reason is what should guide us to the freedom of ethical thought. In that respect Jesus the man in his thoughts is far more powerful than Jesus the icon of the church when it comes to bringing good to this world

“Here is a joke, the useless UN with countries like China, Iran, North Korea, criticizing Canada’s human rights. Amazing, just amazing”

China? Oh no, you must have mistakenly put them on that list. We love China and especially those cute cuddly Panda Bears. Just ask your boy Harper ;)

Holy Crap ! I just read 101 comments about……………. ……

“First they came for that family down the street who never did learn to speak the language properly. well, I never SAW anything wrong but I always wondered about some of the people they used to have there at parties, and they aren’t even Christians. They must have broken some laws or they wouldn’t have taken them away. Then they took my barber which suprised me but they must have known something I didn’t know. What? you’re telling me I have to go with you? Where?? Why? I’ve done nothing wrong! Why won’t anyone help me?? My neighbors know I am a good citizen…..help…..” unknown

Holy crap, I agree!

Cheer up everyone spring is just around the corner!

So if North Korea has the three generation policy where one can be imprisoned for the subversive actions of a grandson or father… then how does that differ from Harpers new anti-terror legislation that would allow rendition for relation to a suspect… does it stop at three generations or is it open to include co-workers, employers, neighbors, club members… seems open ended to me and out of the same playbook other totalitarians like the Kim regime use over there.

Maybe someone that understands Harper’s new law can explain the difference to me?

Why is the rule of constitutional law so inadequate in the first place?

Could this new law be open to political abuse if for example the terms of terrorism were to include financial or civil disobedience in the face of home made totalitarianism to preserve an ‘entitled regime’?

If so would that make us all vulnerable to suspicion and secret informants throughout society with malicious intent designed to take the vitality out of democratic discourse? That’s how Rome fell… once the vitality of political discourse was intimidated into subservience by the Emperors the strength of the state was lost and it crumbled.

IMO Hummer with his points about the STV had the best post of the day in terms of what would be best to produce a more open and transparent political system. I don’t think it will ever happen though so long as we have a party based legislature. STV undermines party discipline by making MLA’s truly accountable to the voter, and not so easily elected through divide and and conquer partisan style.

The streets are a MESS this year. I was out driving around today and dust blowing everywhere. The cars in front of me turning a corner blowing dust….it is terrible…never have I seen it so bad out there! I look to the side of the street and it is just dirt…awful!

Eagleone the anti terror legislation if enacted to arrest someone is immediately under judicial review. You are exaggerating for dramatic effect.

I notice that the local BC Liberals are promising a strong economy and a secure tomorrow.

On the other hand the local BC NDP are promising Change for the Better.

My question is what is this “Better” that they are talking about? I mean, is it better than a strong economy and a secure tomorrow?

How can they promise someting which is not really defined and measurable?

Are they suggesting that the BC NDP is promising to change for the better from what they did the last time they were in office?

Actually it is a totally meaningless slogan if one really looks at it.

One never really knows… best to think it through :)

On my reading of history it is much more complex than that. One prof came up with over 200 different theories on why Rome fell. New theories are still emerging.

So, how certain are you that your’s is the only and real reason why Rome fell?
