I assume that $169.00 is each way? This is good news
We now await the much anticipated posts with absolutely humourless quips about the airport runway extension…
Two weeks after the NDP get elected? Leaves time to pack, too. Great timing.
Good news!!! This will especially help folks employed in the natural resource sector’s predominant fly in fly out operations, also good news for PG folks who have friends and relatives in Calgary!!!!
It will be interesting to see what type of plane they use for this flight.
If its a Dash 8 then they can seat 50 Passengers. If not then they can accommodate considerably less.
from one of the four lines above Palupo:
“and will use a Dash 8”
Too bad it’s not a morning flight to Calgary & evening coming back.
I would think the $169 is just an introductory rate.
In any case, this is good news!
You got a good eye interceptor I missed than line.
The reason I wondered is because in 2012 they had Two (2) Dash 8’s.
In any event they can accommodate 50 passengers so if they can make a go of it, good for them.
“The flight will leave Prince George at 5pm. Monday through Friday and will return each week day, leaving Calgary in the morning.”
Good point weaksauce. If you had to be in Calgary on a Wednesday, you would have to spend Tuesday night and Wednesday night in Calgary before you could return to PG.
If one is going to a part day meeting or doing other business then Calgary to PG in am and returning in pm means the Calgarian with all the money can save a hotel night. So, unless the individual stays longer than that, there is virtually no gain for PG business other than ground transport and a meal or two. On top of that, he/she will gain an hour in the morning and can be at a meeting relatively early.
The reverse is true for the poor guy/gal from PG. Similar time for a meeting, but won’t be able to start till late in the morning. But, gives the person an opportunity to be wined and dined in the evening or do that for his client. Then drop some more money for a hotel and maybe some more for ground transportation.
But, it is much better than Westjet via Vancouver and Kelowna.
It would be interesting to know how many of these seats are business people / clients like Gus’s scenarios as opposed to people who work in the oil field and would fly in and out for a few weeks at a time.
Yes the times are backwards, I agree with you all. It benefits the people of Calgary more than the people here(both business and leasure).
You would think that there are more business travellers who want to go from here to Calgary than the other way around.
If this ‘doesn’t fly’ (pun intended), then the goofy scheduling would be one of the reasons.
Actually that schedule works great if you want to catch a concert in Calgary during the week – :D
It won’t last the summer!
At that price how can it fail. That is an amazing low price. The other airlines are charging upwards of $800 for a last minute direct flight to Vancouver.
The airline will be purchasing their fuel in el cheapo Alberta rather than our airport. No rush on the fuel tanks at our airport here, boys.
Nice a local (Smithers based) airline is expanding.
The rate of $169 does not include taxes, so you will have to add on the Airport Improvement Fee $20.00 plus NavCan Fee, Fuel Surcharge, GST?? and who know what all.
At the end of the day the price is close to $200.00 one way.
Harbinger..how true
This is a great move by Central Mountain Dare. Maybe the sched can be tweaked a little, maybe someday Edmonton. Oh, and Interceptor, Dash-8’s do not require 11,000 feet of runway.
As usual, Prince George and its citizens (some) think everything that happens in the Northern Interior is about Prince George. Here’s the true story .
The Terrace Standard Newspaper reported to-day April 26th.
An announcement was made at the Minerals North Barbecue held at the Terrace Airport., that Hawkair/Central Mountain Air would commence a daily Monday to Friday flight from Terrace BC to Calgary AB with a stop-over at Prince George BC.
The new service will be a Dash 8-100 Aircraft with 37 seats.
Flights will begin in June departing Calgary in the am stop in PG and arrive Terrace for a total time of less than 3 hours. Flights ex Terrace depart in the afternoon and arrive Calgary in the evening.
Terrace residents working in Alberta can now fly direct without detouring through Vancouver.
New flights will be offered by Central Mountain Air with its sister company Hawkair taking care of the operation initially.
So there you have it. Direct flights from Terrace to Calgary with a stop over at Prince George.
Have a nice day.
Palopu: “As usual, Prince George and its citizens (some) think everything that happens in the Northern Interior is about Prince George.”
I don’t see anyone who said that. Maybe we should call ourselves the “Northern Inferior”?
JohnnyBelt. We certainly act Inferior. Hence all the BS about how great we are.
An inferiorty complex hidden in a superiority complex.
We have the greatest Cancer Centre, the Greatest Green University, the (used to be) Greatest WHL Franchise. We have the third longest runway in BC (maybe Canada) We have a $40 Million dollar police station (plus interest) that will provide better facilities to Prisoners than some of our citizens have.
We are going to host the Canada Winter Games, and people all over the world will come to know how great we are. We have a faaaaantastic Casino, and bingo hall. We are a faaaaantastic place for tourists to visit.
Lastly but not least, we have $110 Million in debt, we are border line broke, we cannot pave our roads, and they look and feel like s..t. .
But heyyyy. We are the greatest.
May I add, probably the longest asphalt runway in Canada, Dash-8’s won’t mind though….
I honestly don’t see how some people can turn this into something negative.
I mean, so what if the flight starts in Terrace and get billed in a Terrace newspaper as a direct to Calgary. I couldn’t give a damn if it started in Timbukto as long as I can fly from here Direct to Calgary without a stop in Vancouver.
We will now have more choices as customers for an industry that is notorious for a lack of choice. Sounds like a win to me.
Are you implying that Prince George might as well be Timbukto?
I’m with you, Jaws. Overall, I see it as a good thing overall, regardless of what the Terrace newspaper might have to say.
The only thing Palopu seems positive about is keeping the City in the golf business.
