Mayors’ Caucus Wraps Today

Prince George, B.C. – The BC Mayors’ Caucus meeting continues in Prince George today.
It is day two of the closed door huddle which has 70 Mayors from across B.C. gathered to talk about common issues.
That participation level is about half the number who took part in the session last September although it should be noted the September get together was held in conjunction with the UBCM meeting.
Today, NDP leader Adrian Dix will be addressing the Mayors right after their lunch break. The Mayors’ Caucus had indicated last fall that it would be issuing an invitation to all political party leaders in B.C. for this two day event, however, the caucus public relations person says Mr. Dix was the only one who could “make it work” with his schedule and he was a last minute addition to their agenda.
The September event wrapped with a resolution calling for “stable predictable long term infrastructure funding” from the senior levels of governments. The current session has been billed as including “ discussions around identifying key policy issues of common concern and next steps in addressing those issues with other orders of government.”
Today , there is a focus on matters of economic development, although because the meetings are closed, the details are not available.

Dix could secure a lot of votes by going to the Mayors den and holding a news conference out front stating he intends to go inside and announce to the mayors he will be repealing legislation that allows the Alternate Approval Process, as it doesn’t meet the democratic standard in a democracy.
He would look tough, and on top of the issues that matter, and and people could say this is a guy that is going to stand up for fairness to the little guy. Does he want 70 votes or does he want a half million votes?
All they seem to want is more money from senior levels of government. One would think they were elected to manage the tax dollars that they collect and learned to live within their means like all the rest of us.
Cheers
Behind closed doors?
If I get this right Ben this is a gathering of public officials attending a meeting about public services paid for fully by the public taxpayer and they close the door?
Glad they are support open and accountable government.
