Prince George, B.C. – According to an Insights West Poll of 385 B.C. voters following last night’s televised leaders debate, Christy Clark and Adrian Dix were nearly tied .
Of those questioned, nearly 68% watched at least part of the debate, but only 26% watched the whole program.
According to Insights West, it was Christy Clark who gained the most as 28% chose her as the winner, while Adrian Dix was selected by 31%. That is a far cry from the gap that exists in other polls which say Clark trails Dix by about 14%.
Nearly a third (26%) felt there was no clear winner.
“Usually underdogs have the most to gain in leader’s debates, and in this sense, Christy Clark delivered,” comments Steve Mossop, President of Insights West. “With the NDP having led the election race from the beginning and results showing a dead-heat tie between the leaders of the two prominent parties in terms of who won the debate, Christy now has a bit of extra momentum heading into the final couple weeks of the campaign. Sterk did as well as expected — which doesn’t impact voter outcomes, while Cummins completely flopped, which could help the right-of-centre vote if a few points get delivered to the Liberals as an outcome.”
When asked why they felt a particular candidate had won, Insights West says the answers vary significantly, depending on who was chosen. Those who said Christy Clark won felt she did so because she
appeared the most confident (69%), was the best speaker (69%), provided the clearest vision for BC (60%), was the most articulate (57%), came across the best as a leader (53%), demonstrated her experience (42%), and was the most energetic (38%). Dix was chosen because he answered the questions the best (60%), defended his ideas the best (58%), did not make any major mistakes (52%), was not too confrontational (50%), and was the most authentic (45%).
Over the lunch hour today, the candidates for the two Prince George ridings will take part in a forum. An all candidates debate for the local contenders is set for May 8th at the Canfor Theatre at UNBC.

Bunk
Dix was chosen because he disregarded the instruction of the moderator (that there were to be no interruptions) the most!
Part of the blame for this impolite and disrespectful behaviour goes to the moderator who let him do this again and again without reminding him not to do it. Once she allowed him to get away with it the others did it too and lowered the civility of the whole debate.
All I heard was “I’ve only been premier for two years”.
What was the most disturbing was the fact that practically everything CC claims as fact, appears to be untrue??? You cannot believe a word those Liberals tell you, like how they have increased funding to post secondary and then we read about funding cuts to CNC.
Not to mention…we expect her to get points and a fine for running that red light [admitted crime] before the election is over…..;-)
I expect that Dix should get jail time for forgery on official government documents, and obstruction of justice for his ‘admiited crime’ before the election is over.
If there had been a red light camera she would have received a ticket automatically.
If it had been observed by an RCMP officer she most likely would have been given a ticket.
She did not run a red light. She stopped and then proceeded, as if from a stop sign. It is not crime to do this, but a traffic offence and a real stupid idea.
Forging official documents and misleading an investigation is a crime and should be punishable.
I thought they were all terrible. Ask a question to Dix and he answers it with “It’s time for change”.
Ask Clark a question and it’s LNG.
Not every question needs the same answer.
Dix pointed out forestry needs help.
What did the NDP do from 1991 to 2001 when the pine beetle started devastating our forests.
Now he would like us to believe it is the Liberals fault that forests were not taken care of. In 2001 when the liberal took power they started the task of controlling any further damage. Good leadership did that and we now have a lumber industry that is gaining strength.
The world economy drove the cost of lumber in the tank and today we are seeing that strong leadership has made the industry stronger.
All things considered I think that Green Party *Sterk* did quite well. Probably the most honest and sane person of the group.
To say that Cummins flopped is a bit of an overstatement. If he stumbled at all it was because he tried to be realistic, while Christy and Dix were operating in the **Dream World** where you can say, and promise anything, and completely ignore the facts.
Wouldn’t it be something if the Green Party won. I wouldn’t count that out. Anything can happen.
I think you people spend to much time back stabbing each other. It’s no wonder why our governments are the way they are.
Lots of new faces in the NDP while the Liberals have all the same old faces with no new ideas. They cut corporate taxes so much they cannot balance the budget…but try to tell us they did. CC could have cut the HST two years ago when they found out it wasn’t revenue neutral like they tried to claim when they imposed it upon us….but they didn’t.
The BC Liberals would rather pick our pockets with taxes and user fees, and spend our money foolishly than let us decide the best place to spend it.
Wouldn’t it be something if the Green Party won. I wouldn’t count that out. Anything can happen.
============================================
The Green Party leader was pretty clear they would raise the carbon tax to unheard of levels….don’t you have any idea what that would do to us?>? With that position they won’t get much support from sane people.
Watching the debate was like watching 5 year olds fighting in the sandbox. None of them actualy answered the questions, rambling on about whatever came to mind. CC is oblivious to the damage she has done and Dix probably couldn’t spell his own name. The only person who even came close to looking like they had an IQ over 25 was the Green Party (I’m not a Green Party supporter) Sad that these are our choices and that the people of BC have to choose between leaders who only got the job because they were willing to lie, cheat and steal to get there.
Pine beetle? NDP? To quote…”We don’t log parks”.
Dix looks like a crack head needing a hit, he twitches and squirms, his eyebrows each have they’re own individual agendas, and his swag walk needs to go. I just can’t imagine sending him to some other country or province as a representative. BC’s own George Dubyah !!
Harbinder “We don’t log parks” Led to we destroy Forests.
Parks are nice lush areas lots of live trees etc. When we don’t control what starts in a park we have no park and no forests just dumb decisions that nearly wiped out the industry. Tough decision in 1990’s would have shown leadership.
This would have led to a strong economy and no need to go and cut down every tree for miles and we would have had a forest that was healthy.
The NDP Didn’t lead then and won’t happen now.
Don’t tell me many of you sat at a light and eventually determined that the sensor didn’t know you were there. So, when no one was looking and nobody was around, proceeded across the intersection. (on a red light)
It has happened to me numerous times on my motorcycle. So, go ahead and hang me for it.
And, at 5:45am in the morning on my to the airport. No traffic, no body around and just sitting at a red light. For a few minutes. Eventually, common sense prevails and I proceed through the light. It’s only a mechanical device that has it’s faults.
If you think this is a character fault, or breaking the law. Good luck finding anyone to run.
In 1993 NDP cabinet minister Moe Sihota was relieved of his cabinet duties after it was revealed he had accumulated seven speeding tickets while in office.
Just saying….
Why is it the “New” Campbell/Clark Liberal Party won’t mention either name. Campbell or Clark. I for one still remember all the crap Campbell put this province through. Yes indeed, forgetting to find a ticket for rapid transit is a much more serious thing than drunk driving or going through red lights. Let’s cut the crap and discuss some serious issues in this campaign instead of LNG and Change.
Child endangerment….who runs a red light with a young child in the car…and a reporter to record the even?? Only a BC Liberal that believes they are above the law.
