Prince George, B.C. – The search for a woman who is said to have slipped and fallen into the raging Willow River at Highway 16, has been called off.
RCMP say the river is simply moving too fast and too dangerous to allow search and rescue crews to enter the water. PG Search and Rescue’s Jeff Smedley had estimated the river was moving at about 10 miles an hour.
The woman, who is said to be about 60, was walking her dogs with a companion this afternoon when she is said to have come too close to the bank of the canyon near the highway, slipped and fell in.
RCMP and Search and Rescue called in all available resources, including the RCMP plane, and a contracted helicopter to search the Willow River banks from the bridge to the spot where the Willow pours into the Fraser.
The aerial searches failed to provide any clues to the woman’s fate.
The investigation in to the circumstances of this event, continues.
