Prince George, B.C. – A multi-pronged search effort is underway east of Prince George for a woman who fell into the Willow River while out walking her dogs.
Prince George RCMP officials tell 250 News that the 60-year-old woman, name and home town not released, was walking the dogs with a male companion around 12:30 this afternoon near an observation area overlooking the river where it runs underneath Highway 16. The woman apparently got too close to the edge and slipped down into the river, estimated by Jeff Smedley with Prince George Search and Rescue to be running at about 10 mph.
Fifteen SAR members and five RCMP officers have been searching the river banks in hopes the woman made it to shore. However the searches have been cautioned not to get too close to the river due to its speed.
The RCMP also has a plane and a helicopter involved in the search of the river banks. B.C. Ambulance personnel have also been on scene to provide any assistance that might be required.

It was 1974 when a group of high school students put in with their canoes. Just around the corner is a wicked canyon.
That canyon is known to be deadly. It is a very unfortunate place to fall in.
This is very tragic. My condolences to the families involved. And to whoever writes the byline to this : elderly woman falls into the river: Sorry, a person or the lady in this case is not elderly. Repeat: 60 is not elderly.
This is very tragic and my heart goes out the the family. Only one year ago it was our family waiting and praying for someone to find our loved ones. Prayers for the family to find peace.
