Prince George, B.C.- The evacuation orders which forced people from two homes in the Buckhorn area yesterday, have been downgraded to an alert, they will be allowed to return to their homes, but should be prepared to leave on a moment’s notice should the fire flare up again. There are now 6 residences under evacuation alert as a result of that wildfire.
Wildfire Management Branch Information Officer, Kevin Skrepnek, says there are 17 fire fighting personnel on site of the blaze at the end of Lund Road. The personnel are supported by one piece of heavy machinery and 2 helicopters.
The fire has been fully contained but it did consume about 20 hectares.
As for the blaze at the end of Discovery Road, there are 12 fire fighting personnel on scene, one piece of heavy machinery and one water tender truck providing water to the area. That fire burned about 30 hectares near Pilot Mountain.
“I know some people in the bowl area of Prince George have reported smoke today, but that is a direct result of the smoke from these two fires” says Skrepnek.
