No We Don’t Support Any Party Or Candidate
Monday, May 13, 2013 @ 3:45 AM
Unlike many media outlets who seem to think that when they speak the public should listen , don’t expect 250News to endorse any candidate or any party in Tuesday’s election. We don’t feel that we are the shepherds of the population but rather, we are the people who bring you information.
We do say this, regardless of how you feel, make sure that you vote and make sure that you vote for the party and the candidate who you feel will best serve your interests in this community, this province and this country.
We often hear from people who say that they are not voting, because they can’t decide who to vote for or they feel that all the candidates and all the parties fail to provide the kind of interests that they would like to see.
Take the Liberal record, take the NDP promises for the future, you may wish to look at the promises made by the Conservatives, the Green party or perhaps an independent candidate who aligns with your thinking.
We take the right to vote very lightly in Canada and you need only look to many countries that do not enjoy the same luxury to see just what we have.
As it now stands, we enjoy the right to be able to vote and then feel perfectly free to criticize what has been said by those we elect. On the other hand if you don’t show up at the polls, do you have the right to complain about what you believe to be were poor choices?
Tomorrow we at 250NEWS will bring you up to date election reports from the key constituencies around us . Just as in the past, we are confident that our results will rival any other media source. So tomorrow, sit back and see just what your vote has brought.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

That’s one way of looking at it.
But it still leaves open the question of what your vote really counts for when you feel none of the candidates, or their Parties, or their leaders, are offering anything you want in a greater quantity than anything you don’t want. Do we have the option of voting for “None of the Above” on the bottom of every ballot, when any of us feel that way? To measure just how many of us are not satisfied with what’s being offered by anyone, and as an inducement to ALL the Parties, leaders, and candidates to get out and find just what it is the public DOES want? We do not. Instead we’re told that not voting is just a sign of ‘apathy’ by those ‘too lazy’, or whatever, to go and vote.
I have no particular objection to making a choice of which ‘individual’ amongst all the candidates running in my riding I believe would be best suited to represent me as my MLA. If that were ALL i was voting for.
Even if I don’t personally know any of them. I can tell by their manner, and the way they conduct themselves, speak, etc., pretty well which one amongst them would be my best choice.
But that’s not the only thing I’m being asked to choose when I cast my ballot.
I’m also being asked to approve the past records of those Parties who would govern, plus what their platform is for the future, en masse, plus their choice of leader, plus what I think are the chances of them actually carrying through on their promises. All on one ballot.
And I’m told if I don’t do this, if I don’t go and vote for one of those names on that ballot, I’m denigrating the memory of all those who fought so hard for our ‘freedoms’? That it’s my civic ‘duty’ to vote? To do my bit for ‘democracy’, and the freedoms it embellishes.
Well, I’m sorry, but ‘freedom’ itself is the “ability of the individual to choose or refuse one thing at a time.”
It may also be something where you can send your ‘representative’ to actually REPRESENT you.
But it is certainly NOT something to be DELEGATED, where you give the person you’re voting for, as a representative of a Party and its leader TO YOU, what amounts to an unlimited blank cheque for the next four years. Not without some form of sanction, and a more effective one than waiting til the next election to vote whoever you voted in last time out again.
What we need is an effective “Voter’s Veto”. Where we can vet any legislation that meets with widespread opposition, (like the HST did), in between elections. And make sure that ‘blank cheque’, the one that’s drawn on OUR accounts, has some limits on it.
There needs to be a “none of the above” on the ballot.
Vote
I agree with both comments. The way the system is set up now they can make all kinds of promises to do better by doing things differently. Just as soon as a new party gets in – all bets and promises are off because *we had no idea how bad the situation is now that we looked at the books!*
After having observed this during all kinds of federal, provincial and even municipal elections (!) I firmly believe that some kind of penalties should kick in automatically as soon as that kind of scam is pulled on the trusting voting public once more. Perhaps dismissal without a golden handshake and a few days in the slammer!
The “none of the above” option should be on the ballot for those who have become tired of the old shell game!
It always amazes me at election time how short people’s memories are. Back in 2001 the majority of the province wanted the NDP out and voted Liberals in and now it seems people are on the other side of the fence again. I guess ‘..the grass is always greener..” The important thing is to get out and vote, have your say whether or not the majority agrees with you.

-Go have a look at the “other” local news outlet website where citizens of Prince George go to get their news. Disgusting use of media.
our electoral system is a farce! why dont we directly vote for a provincial leader? the way it is set up is silly. same with federal elections. first past the post is not democratic and during the all candidates debate they were all against representitive system? another thing that drives me crazy is the political culture of corruption, lies, and coverups… why do we put up with that crap why do we think that it is just the way it is? there needs to criminal sanctions for electoral fraud and deliberate lies to the people.
We did have a referendum to change the voting system to a proportional system, twice in fact, but it was turned down by the voters. So it may be that first past the psot is what voters in BC want. Anyway, it was made as a democratic choice. If anyone thinks there is an appetite for it again in the province, why not start a new initiative to demand a third referendum on BCSTV? I would certainly vote in favour.
I support NDP this election to put an end to the corruption in BC. The system is at breaking point and what happened in WIDC is just the tip of the corruption in BC.
“I support NDP this election to put an end to the corruption in BC”
That had me laughing so hard I neary burst an artery. … LOL

Thats ok ImFrank .. I posted how much over budget the BC place renos , the convention center, bollywood, school closure , Extended care bed closures, contract ripping, penalties imposed by the Supreme court of Canada upon the Current Liberal government..and about 75 other things …. It was deleted too … so dont you worry
univ supports what ever party his/her union tells him/her to..
I agree with Gus… That was a gut buster. When univ eventually finishes becoming highly educated and ends up working in the mill, maybe he’ll get it. It won’t take long for the ndp to have their first scandal and the corruption will continue . I believe all the parties are pretty much corrupt anyway, doesn’t make much difference which party has the reigns.

It appears that 250 is an equal opportunity delete-er
And a random one at that
I have a standard comment that I make . If you didn’t like the idea that we pulled your comment, please send us a notarized letter absolving us of any damages in any legal action commenced against you and 250 news.
Also would you please agree to cover all damages that may incur, then we will let your comments go without editing, because you feel that your rights are being attacked.
You agree to pay and we will play, simple as that.

Wow. The last few days the Liberal supporters have come out of the woodwork, extremely angry and firing insults left and right. Why, why, are you not mad at the Liberal party themselves ? Christy herself says that this is the most important election in BC for decades. Yet, the Liberals head into this election with no platform other than “ya, well, those guys sucked in the nineties”. LNG, the Liberals will pay off the provincial debt in 15 years. The people of BC need to kick this bunch to the curb and in 4 years they can come back and govern this province for more than 40 some days a year sitting in the Legislature.
“No We Don’t Support Any Party Or Candidate”
So guess it is sheer accident that there is a BIG picture of two local candidates and their leader on the front page of the site the night before the election:P
Lonesome Sparrow, you’re not seriously suggesting that Ben supports the NDP, are you? Anyone who’se been around PG for any length of time is well aware that Ben is to the right of centre. I find your suggestion quite hilarious.
I never mentioned Ben: there are other editors who could have posted the offending(to me at least)picture.
lonesome … the picture rotates … its part of the forum software …
Just wondering where all those posters are that say we live in a police state. Don’t seem to crawl out unless its dumping on some authority type. LOL
Are the parties allowed to campaign once the polls open? Had an NDP type at the door with a Deepak doorknob hanger thing at 11:20 this morning, just past the sign that says no solicitors or agents.
