Prince George, B.C.- It is practically an annual event, the closing of Paddlewheel Park, because of flooding.
At noon today the Fraser was at 8.81 meters, the official flood level is 9.4 meters, and it is expected the Fraser will hit 9.2 meters this evening.
Chief of Prince George Fire Rescue, John Lane, says the heavy rainfall yesterday, particularly in the McGregor region, is the reason for the rapid rise in the level of the Fraser.
The City is providing sand and bags at the end of Farrell Street for those residents who want to add protection to their homes.
In the meantime, the yellow tape is being put in place around Paddlewheel Park warning residents of the danger.

Pretty early for this time of year.. Usually the high water mark hits in june and the scarry thing is the Driftwood,Takla,Stuart systems havent started dumping in yet.
WE going to wait until the last minute for the Gabion Dyking this year?
That’s probably the cleanest bench in town, also Cottonwood Park gets it’s annual flush of dogie dooee ;)
This is quite early to have a flood threat at Paddlewheel. Peak water is always the first or 2nd week of June. Let the Gong show begin. The city will once more spend major money here to accomplish nothing. Police sitting up all night on overtime to protect what?? Oh yeah — the yellow tape.
I live on Farrell, PLEASE NO DYKING THIS YEAR!!!!! it did NOTHING but dirty our lawns, street and park. The water is going to be no where near where it was last year, yes, it’s early flooding, because of the unseasonally warm weather for so long, then that rain didn’t help. Last year we were removed from our homes (forced), and i had a 10 month old! they stuck us in hotels with no a/c (in june), no fridges, and it was just gross (except the Carmel, they were AMAZING!) Anyway, just saying, I hope, along with Farrell street& tax payers, that the Dyke doesn’t go up! Last year there was so much caos and everyone walked away a loser, the city spent so much money to get it up, tear it down AND RUINED PARKS, we got this, most of the residents have lived there years, and we’ve been fine.
“Last year there was so much caos and everyone walked away a loser.”
True.. There is a loss becuse there is no net gain natural disastars however because of emergency managemant procedures and precautions people “walked away” and werent “swept away.”
