Fraser Expected to Crest Tonight

Prince George, B.C.- Although residents along Farrell Street in Prince George have been put on evacuation alert, it is doubtful they will be forced from their homes because of the rising level of the Fraser River.
At lunchtime today, the Fraser was recorded at 9.459 meters at South Fort George. That is .059 of a meter over the historical flood level, but, at Paddlewheel Park, the water level had not yet reached the road.
“We are expecting the Fraser to crest some time tonight” says Prince George Fire Rescue Chief John Lane. The Fraser has already crested in McBride and at Hansard, so it is expected the river’s level will start to recede overnight tonight.
The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has activated its Emergency Operations Centre, but that is just in a monitoring mode, with an expectation that those who live in low lying areas, such as Foreman Flats, will see some water on the properties closest to the bank of the Fraser. It is not expected that any residences will need to be evacuated.
