Libs Take Cariboo North

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 @ 10:59 PM
Quesnel- The NDP had hoped that Cariboo North  would see Bob Simpson defeated as an Independent in the Provincial election .
The tables turned tonight as Coralee Oakes, the Liberal candidate who received 5459 votes, swept to an easy victory in the riding  over both Duncan Barnett who polled 2840 votes, to Bob Simpsons 4933 .

Simpson had left the NDP during Carole James reign.

This is disappointing. Bob Simpson was the hardest working politician in Victoria and the province will be the poorer as a result of his constituents not seeing that. I hope its not the last we see of Bob Simpson in politics.

Congrats to Coralee and the other northern MLAs. Now it is time to get down to the brass tacks and make BC shine!

Well, if it was going to shine it would have by now…it has had 12 years!

Eagleone, you are right! Bob Simpson worked very hard for his constituents and the people of the province. I think that he had a lot of integrity, but he could only do so much as a member of the NDP. Right guy, wrong party!

I am not sure what we won tonight. We did loose two independents that were giving me hope that ethics and accountability is more important than being aligned with a party. Thanks to John Van Dongen and Bob Simpson for their hard work and hopefully they are back some day.

I always liked Bob Simpson he tried his best and always made sure northerners had a voice while I am ecstatic that the liberals got back into power I hope that Coralee realizes she has some awfully big shoes to fill. I’ve always respected Bob but I have never ever liked the party he ran for.

Coralee is herself an awesome person, and you can bet that she will do a hell of a job as the MLA for Cariboo North…and she will be a member of a very strong majority government..

Nononsense, the province is in much better shape than it was 12 years ago. I take it you forgot or weren’t old enough to remember the poor house the NDP put us in when they had power. Keeping in mind that it always takes longer to build than to destroy, I think the liberals are doing a great job even if I don’t agree with them all the time.
