Here We Flow Again

Farrell Street home sits  as if an island in the flood waters of the Fraser – 250News
Prince George, B.C. – A portion of Regents Crescent in Prince George  was closed this morning as crews worked to pump some of the water from the Fraser River away from the  Farrell Street homes.
The Fraser had reached a level of 9.722 meters this morning, that’s.322 of a meter above flood level.
As is the case, nearly every year, the same homes on Farrell Street that experience the flooding pretty much every year, are experiencing it once again.
While residents were put on evacuation alert, there have been no   orders of evacuation issued.
The river is believed to have crested and is expected to start receding.

They are not going to break out the debian dykes again this year?

Same story.. every year… the residents know what to expect… please stop expecting us to come to your rescue.

In all fairness P Val, I dont think any of the residents there are asking for rescue ;)

I wish the Gov would just pay them 15% about BC Assessment value and put a covenant on the house saying they will NEVER get flood restoration coverage again.

er um Porter.food for thought and perhaps research- home owners residing in flood planes/zones are NOT entitled to Flood Restoration coverage, anywhere in BC. And the residents on Farrell have not asked to be rescued, they have only asked for sand and sand bags from the city officials.
perhaps they could invest money to rescue PADDLE WHEEL PARK as it is what floods.
Just Saying!

Think there’s a little salt in that there water. NDP tears.

They do if there is a state of emergency declared. Nothing in the guidelines talk about exceptions for flood plains.

We have had state of emergency declared in 2011 and 2012.

Please post where I can find the information you are talking about, as I have apparently been misinformed.

Grizzly1 what the hell does that have to do with anything? Id…..

Those are my neighbors! :) We aren’t asking for your help, or pity/sympathy, or your opinions! Most of us Farrell Street residents have been here for YEARS, we know what we are getting into. I’m not sure who’s asking for sandbags, but my grandma-in-law did that at our house years ago, it did nothing but ruin her beautiful yard with sand.

If you have negative comments, please keep them to yourselves, we aren’t asking anyone for anything, and it’s not fair of people to just come in and reem us out for where we live, some of these people have lived here 20+ years, and will continue to live here as long as possible.

oh and as for flood insurance, I don’t know anyone on my street let alone all my friends in town at all, that have or are able to get flood insurance!

Well last year I had a resident of the area live with me for 3 weeks due to flooding. I remember the one fellow complaining about the city not acting fast enough. Then they got there and he complained the city ruined his underground sprinkler system. Lol

Last year was the worst my hubby can remember. By acting faster last year, the gabian dyke could have went behind the houses, instead of forcing us from our homes. I tried to go into my house to just go get diapers for my daughter (we had like 15 minutes to prepare for a month) and I was told I could be detained for crossing the sand filled boxes (saying it would be vandalism). This year is different, the river has already crested (so says a local fire chief), last year we waited weeks to hear that news.

it’ll be over in a few days, everyone just needs to calm down, and possibly do us a favor and keep your fingers crossed we dont get some torrential downpours or something! haha!

The Stuart system hasn’t started dumping in yet. So there is still lots to come. Lets hope the upper Fraser tappers off a bit before the Stuart starts to rage.
