How Can You Tell It’s A Long Weekend
Friday, May 17, 2013 @ 3:22 PM

Prince George- How can you tell it’s a long weekend, well the price of gas goes up.
It is sitting at 142.9 cents a litre this afternoon.
That is $6.50 cents a gallon if you like to have it the old way.
Does it mean it’s a long weekend, you be the judge .
Comments
I love the cbc story about gas prices…
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2013/05/17/business-inflation-cpi.html?cmp=rss
That’s ok, we will all collectively bend over, touch our toes, and take it anyway!
But seriously, have a good long weekend everyone :D
Glad I fueled my truck a couple days ago, and that a full tank should last me about 2 months. For everyone else… I suggest after you get fuel, don’t sit down, as it will be very sore
In other news, my Chevron shares are doing great this year!
^^^
Me too. :D
The oil companies dont even bother to come up with a reason why they raise prices anymore…they know that all levels of government are theirs, so they can do as they wish. I told friends in AB how much gas cost here and all they said was ‘ you are kidding me, right?’.
Wow, That’s just great! But what can you do… Summer must be here!
Would have been about 1:35 without the carbon tax scam.
With the election behind us the debate on whether or not to build the northern gateway pipeline will probably pick up speed. As part of this debate I hope some of the discussion will ask the question why when Canadians were dealt a really good hand in life with regard to our plentiful natural resources, did our politicians sign deals making us pay world market prices for these same natural resources.
Even with second recent rise in gas prices, from 129.90 to 134.9 and now to 142.90, Mattyc remains silent.
I’m getting a little bit worried about him!
He’s just laughing now!!!!!
Talk about collusion. This should be illegal. I haven’t seen these prices since crude hit $150 a barrel. What’s it selling for today?
About $96 a barrel…total rip off if you ask me!
Its a complete rip off. Imagine what we will pay when the Northern Gateway goes through and oil companies are going for wolrd market prices… did they say it was a 50% premium….
Shell in the Hart is still $1.35 and its full service too.
Full service? All they do is grab your money, stuff the hose in and take it out when your full. Full service isn’t what it was like years ago. It included washing all windows, headlights, taillights, check the oil and tranny levels, windshield washer level, air pressure in the tires and maybe give you some cutlery or a dinner plate when they were done. All at a wage of $1.25 ph and gas was 42 cents per gallon. :)
Anyone notice that this problem of high gas prices was only discussed in the election as it pertained to the carbon tax. Both the (so called) mainstream parties were in favour of keeping the carbon tax. Gas prices in general were never discussed. So much for their concern for us.
We should of course be grateful for the money we will make on natural gas (trillions) someday in the distant future, and the elimination of the PST.
Anyone who believes anything that Christy promised in the election has been standing beside their exhaust pipe to long.
The increase in gas, is an indication of what the Government and the oil companies really think of us. Up yours would describe is adequately.
Have a nice day.
The NDP was so in favour of the carbon tax they were going to ‘expand it’
Hey Palopu, you could try living in Argentina or Libya. The Government subsidizes gas prices heavily there. I’m sure they would appreciate your view of the world down there as well. ;-)
Palopu, Give it a rest. You lost the election so deal with it. Adrian Dix promises would have kept you broke anyway.
Have a nice day.
Hey Palopu.. got a project for ya.. Grab a crow bar and start tearing down whets left of the NDP campaign signs.
Palopu:
You know that you’re telling the majority of voters that we are high on exhaust fumes, right?
How about growing a little.
Try protesting responsibly like riding a bike or staying at home and baking a humble pie…carve an NDP in it if you want, i do not care.
however, I personally am offended by your disparaging remarks.
So all of you who are posting to Palopu shouldn’t mind that the Liberals will do absolutely nothing to investigate what is behind these increases in gas prices.
Heck, I hope the price of fuel goes up to $1.50 per litre, why not let those massive oil companies have tax breaks, while they rake in billions of dollars profit from our wallets and purses at the gas pumps!
You vote in a pro-business Liberal / Conservative government and then complain about those businesses digging too deep into our pockets at gas pumps? Please give me, and people like Palopu, a break and stop complaining about it.
News flash… Enbridge contributed over $56,000 to the BC Liberal Party, the Alberta Conservatives and their BIG OIL buddies held fundraising dinners and events in Alberta for the BC Liberal Party… and now you complain about rising fuel prices? Wow… just wow!!!
I find it truly ironic how the whiners told us to shove it when it came to the HST vote, they said the majority ruled and celebrated.
Now the Liberals win the election, the whiners now tell us the majority are breathing exhaust fumes and we are the reason the world will soon come to an end.
mattyc disappearing is classier than most of the NDP whiners on here.
Oh and by the way, gas prices are not set by the government as the whiners would like you to believe. If you have a problem with the prices, do something about it.
people#1
very ironic that it was you, yourself who posted the very first whine about the prices.
Quite the hypocrite arn’t you.
and for those of you who think the price increase was a product of the election, please explain why prices in Alberta have jumped similarly this week?
129.9 in Edson as we speak. Up from 112.9 just a couple of weeks ago.
Royal Dutch Shell made over 31 billion dollars in profit in 2011, up 54 % in profits over 2010 profits. Yup keep voting in business friendly Federal and Provincial governments, because their profits come from our wallets and purses. As for me complaining, did I not say in my first post that “It’s OK everyone” yes I said; “we may as well collectively bend over, touch our toes, and take it”. Why? because we did this to ourselves!
How many of us here think that an NDP government would be investigating these increases in gas prices on our behalf? Hmmm… let me think a government for the people or a government for business. Why would the Liberals want to investigate BIG OIL when BIG OIL contributed so generously to their election campaign? Get use to bending over everyone :D We have 4 more years of this… yahoo :D
People#1
ahhh, once again the irony. You call out big companies because of profits, but I suspect you along with most other cry like a little girl when you check out your RRSP investments and see you didnt make as much money as you wanted.
Take some time some day, look at your investments, look for the actual companies your broker has invested in on your behalf.
People scream because big companies are making money, then they brag when their investments do well, all the time not having a clue who they really have invested in.
So the stock market is driven by fraud and is a huge manufactured bubble driven by ‘quantitative easing’ by the central bankers to over $10 billion a month here in Canada and over $85 billion a month in the USA (free money printed to invest in markets so as to support them from collapse due to bankster fraud)… quantitative easing the US Federal Reserve has said is going to stop soon… maybe a signal they will now burst the bubble or risking hyperinflation?
So when your stocks crash and you’re paying $2 a liter for gas, then how does that argument work then? Drive less, don’t heat your home in the winter, bath with cold water, don’t send the kids to school, or just get a job with the globalists, if you don’t already work for them…..
RRSP investments? Ha, ha, ha, too funny Albus. The company I work for cutoff our pension plan 10 years ago, why? Because they were not making enough profits to expand their business, and retire their owners on beds and mattresses full of money :)
It is strange how you would assume that most of us would have the money to invest in RRSPs, in the first place. Hmmm… you must be one of those entitled rich silver spoon in mouth, folks!
Look at you, defending BIG OIL as they increase the price of fuel at their pumps. Are you being paid to post pro-Enbridge and pro BIG OIL messages on various internet comment boards Albus? Your posts are not very “people” friendly, but they are very “business” friendly.
Anyone else notice how Albus’s last comment gradually moves away from the topic at hand which is increases in the price of fuel at the gas pumps? It’s a common diversionary communications technique, nice try Albus ;)
People1st: “RRSP investments? Ha, ha, ha, too funny Albus. The company I work for cutoff our pension plan 10 years ago, why? Because they were not making enough profits to expand their business, and retire their owners on beds and mattresses full of money :)”
Sounds like you need to find another job. Stop playing the victim and take some ownership and responsibility for yourself.
As far as gas prices, I’ve said it before, if you don’t like high gas prices, use less or buy a fuel efficient car. Nobody is entitled to cheap gas.
I have no problem sticking a knife into BIG OIL’s back, here let me give that knife a little twist by posting a link to BIG OIL and GAS Chief Executive Officer annual salaries. Wow, an average of almost $14 million per year in salary and benefits for those CEOs.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703864204576313381721585032.html
These people, and their companies in Alberta, bent over backwards hosting fundraising dinners and events for the BC Liberal Party. Now that the Liberals have been re-elected, maybe we should just consider this hike in gas prices as their loyalty reward?
People #1. Why would you assume people who invest in RRSP’s are silver spoon in mouth? You really are a left wing nut bar!!!
Four more very LONG years for the NDP whiners…And then they will go through it allover again; Pointing fingers, crying foul, blaming voter turnout, blaming Adrian Dix attack on BIG OIL.
Oops…I am sorry Dix won’t make next round he has joined Pilapu in staying at home and baking a humble pie.
What part of “we the people spoke!” don’t you get?
Don’t want to use respectful protest using a bike, public transit, hybrid/electric/NG vehicles.
You can still drink your NDP koolaid just don’t spill it on the rest of us (“The Majority”).
No problem, riskeone… as long as the “Majority” stops complaining about the rising cost of fuel at the gas pumps!
I am here to present “facts” and provide “truths” so that readers can become better informed about current events and issues we all face. Here is more “facts” and “truths” for you:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2013/01/18/bc-liberal-fundraiser-calgary.html
I have read through my comments and no where do I see “whining, pointing fingers, crying foul, blaming voter turn out, blaming Adrian Dix”. BIG OIL with it’s billions of dollars in annual profits just raised the price of gas at their pumps, and are digging deeper into our wallets and purses! Of course I am going to blame BIG OIL and the things that they do (like fundraising for the BC Liberal Party) :D
People1st: “I have read through my comments and no where do I see “whining, pointing fingers, crying foul, blaming voter turn out, blaming Adrian Dix”. So you claim you don’t point fingers in one sentence, and then point your finger at BIG OIL in the next. You better read your comments again.
Yeah, the NDP’ers are starting to emerge from their bunkers after being ‘away’ for a couple of days. Just waiting for mattyc to come out of his hiding spot. It’s gonna be a fun four years!
JohnnyBelt states; “So you claim you don’t point fingers in one sentence, and then point your finger at BIG OIL in the next.”
Ummm… because BC Liberal Party loving BIG OIL raised the price of gas at the pumps, and I am blaming them for doing it?
*Note to self: must hammer my head down a few Intelligent quotient (IQ) levels to communicate with JohnnyBelt in the future*
Look, everyone has aright to complain about high gasoline prices…its a free country.
My problem is with your assumptions and your form of protest:
Blaming any government for high fuel is bordering on ridiculous.
i would also add those that appose the transportation of oil that use a cars or trucks on a regular basis fall under the term hypocrisy in the worst possible way.
To suggest Dix could control fuel prices brings this to another level of NDP deception and denial.
The free enterprise community, BIG OIL, and people who know that a government that creates a healthy economy (aka JOBs) would support and/or fund raise for the Liberals… its nothing new.
If you feel there is an under lying agenda except for the one you created in your own mind – fill your boots or make a pie.
You may also want to note that my previous comments were not directed at you alone…i feel we need to help dilute the incessant negative NDP view on this board.
riskeone states; “My problem is with your assumptions and your form of protest: Blaming any government for high fuel is bordering on ridiculous.”
Yet an expert source: AirInc., a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world, states; “The main factor in (gasoline) price disparities between countries is GOVERNMENT POLICY.”
To learn more about the various prices of gasoline in the world, and how much governments can play a role in those prices, I have attached the following link for you.
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global_gasprices/
You postulate about us opposing the transport of oil while using cars and trucks is hypocrisy, while a common argument used by the oil industry, does not hold water. My next post on this discussion thread will blow that argument right out of the water!
i need help with my humble pie recipe, can anyone help?
Ingredients:
1 bunch of NDPers
1 glass of Gripe Wine
1 shot of loser blues
2 licks of denial
Combine all ingredients and mash until you hear no more whining sounds…Voila!
Okay, If that didn’t work try two bunches NDPers and start all over again.

You are mistaken about NDPers being negative and whining on this discussion thread, given the subject (gas prices rising) could you spin something “positive” about it for us average John and Jane Does on this comment board?
The fact is: rising gas prices are a negative thing, for most of us who do not make millions of dollars like the BIG OIL CEO’s. Step up riskeone and tell us something positive about this!
Is there anyone else on this discussion board who would be interested in my response to the oil industry’s tired old argument about “people who step on gas pedals shouldn’t be pointing fingers at the oil companies and oil transportation companies”?
I will blow that argument out of the water if I knew someone intelligent was following this discussion thread!
^^^ Somebody’s got some delusions of grandeur.
*note to self: must hammer my head down a few Intelligent Quotient (IQ) levels to communicate with JohnnyBelt*
Delusions of grandeur… phhttt.. if I used my real name on here you would immediately recognize it :) Posting incognito, and using someone else’s email, guarantees my anonymity.
The freedom is nice, and I don’t have to deal with nosey reporters quoting me, or digging up dirt. During the day, I have to be careful what I say, but on here… freedom :)
For those supposedly brilliant posters, who suggest that I should live in Libya, or Argentina I say to you. I will live in this Country and fight for my rights as a citizen.
The BS line that if you don’t like it you can leave, is the argument of the lazy, that sit and chatter, but rarely get off their asses and do anything.
For starters, the Provincial and Federal Governments control gas and oil through what they charge for royalties, so they could if they wanted put pressure on the oil companies. Furthermore the Prov/Feds, make more money on the gas taxes every time the prices go up, and we could say with some certainty that they are in a conflict of interest. (Not that they give a s..t.)
If, and I repeat if, some of the posters on this site actually read, and digested what other people wrote, they would know that in the past I supported the Liberals, and that I do not vote NDP. I even went further and stated that I did not vote for either of the two mainstream parties in the last election.
Soooo. Having said that, we still have some dunderheads running around suggesting that I am a whiner, and crying the blues because the NDP never won the election.
Fact of the matter is both parties are basically useless, the Liberals because they have sold out to big business, and the NDP, because they have no policies that would attract those people who are looking for some honest representation in Victoria.
The NDP because of their inability to run a half decent election, and win, have basically given not only this four years to the Liberals, but I suspect an additional four years. So we can expect eight more years of terrible Government by the Liberals.
I intend to sit back and watch, and see just how they get along with the big LNG plans in Kitimat, the plans for a refinery, etc; Somehow I think these things will go by the board, however Christy will be a big supporter of the Enbridge Pipeline in the not too distant future.
Have a nice day.
“dunderheads”
“exhaust fume inhaling liberals.”
‘i am not an NDPer”
(give it up Pileapoo)
Let me reiterate i do not care who you support:
Suck it up buttercup -YOU LOST!!!!
Now if you want to add to the pie:
2 tbsp of envy..go ahead, I understand – loser!!
Palopu; after attempting to engage them in intelligent debate, and based on the presentation of all available “fact” and “truths”, I have come to the conclusion that we are indeed communicating with sacks of hammers!
People#1. I have to agree with you. It seems that they are unable to process information, and make decisions based on the facts.
These (In my opinion) are the people who sold their vote to Christy for a fancy speech, a promise (not backed by facts) of a bright future, and a hotdog.
BC has a reputation of not being very bright when it comes to elections and politics, and the last election is one of the reasons.

As for friskeone, his/her attempts at humour are on par with his/her understanding of who controls gas, and prices, and who owns resources, and who issues licenses for mines, oil and gas companies, etc; etc;. Governments do in fact have the power.
As for majorities, I don’t have a problem once the process is over. The Liberals won, compliments of the inept NDP, and the failure of the Conservatives to make a showing.
If friskeone is such a believer in majorities, then I would expect that he/she would not support all the Harper knockers on this site, because guess what?? Harper has a majority.
Have a nice day.
Palopu; I am new to this discussion board but I have participated on others. I appreciate the intelligent thought behind other people’s comments, and see intelligent thought in your comments.
For some of us, learning is a life long adventure that does not stop simply because we completed high school, or our post-secondary degrees.
I see that you have something to offer, and I am glad you comment here. As I read others comments, I look for signs of intelligent thought in their comments. I hope there are more like you on this comment board, and less sacks of hammers.
2 TBSP ‘high five” cause I’m a loooooser.
Come on! is that all you got!
We know the biggest part of fuel prices is taxes – they spelled that out for people at the pumps since the beginning of time.
And not only that added a carbon tax…if crap was smart you would be a Cesspool
Palapu, you are dangerous, I hope young people around you have some intelligent and apposing views.
Why do you all say matty disapeared? I told y’all the same thing last week. I aint goin’ nowhere. I really don’t give a …. (Censored) about any a this. They aint gonna break mattyc. Not in this lifetime. Won’t be long and they is gonna break lots a you. My monthly expenses are almost nothing other then my basic bills. It’s all them other smucks that’s gonna have to worry. They are going to try to break everyone. So to all you that did not bother to go vote thanks very much. You really did a big help. I did vote and therefore have a right to my opinion. I aint posting on here things for you right wing scum to just bully me and call me names because I think things should be different then they are. Go ahead and destroy everyone. Take all thier money. I do not give a dam. These sheep aint worth doing anything for. They deserve what they gonna get now. But quit saying how you miss me. LIARS.
Hey! Bullchit called…they want theIr pile a poo back!
Mattyc,
Too bad!!..you certainly don’t bring anything to the city of value.
Anyone who punishes local business over the HST deserves to be thrown out of town as the biggest flipping fool.
Hey site moderator, riskeone is posting drunk, lowering that IQ level even more! The posts are starting to get abusive. Might want to start censoring some of those posts :)
riskeone thought him/her self a master debater but ended up being a master bater. LOL :D
Doh!
i forgot to add that to the Humble Pie recipe above.
i hope the Liberal contingency got a couple of smiles or chuckles from my defensive attacks on the hooligan loooosers on this board.
Hey sack of hammers, can a borrow one so I can hit my head repeatedly with it until I am down to an appropriate Intelligent Quotient (IQ) level for you?
I apologize for the lengthy discussion with you today, it took me a while to realize where you were at intellectually.
You have my sympathies :(
Just remember one thing YOU LOST..good night smarty pants!
And that folks, is how you end an intelligent discussion / debate on the increase in gas prices… sigh!
Besides what the left wing nut bars here think..Its not “perceived” collusion between the government and oil companies that driving prices.
The real reason that gas prices “swing” is because of commodities futures trading/short selling. The only one who has the power to change this is if all the securities and exchange commissions across the globe got together and put an end to futures trading.
I don’t expect the nut bars to agree with this because they get their economics education from the latest CBC news articles.

Ya and I will continue to do the same thing. I spend almost nothing every month and especially here. Soon others are going to have to do the same because they are gonna be driven to bankrupcy by these right wing ripoff prices for everything. Enjoy yourselves idiots. You won’t be getting money from me for your lousy stinking PG business establishments.
“Enjoy yourselves idiots. You won’t be getting money from me for your lousy stinking PG business establishments.”
-Hmm giving this the smell test it really smells like we have a tax cheat here..If something smells like a tax cheat from a distance its usually at tax cheat when you get right close to it and stick your nose in it..
People like mattyc want socialized profits from everyone else but they don’t care to socialize their profits.. They want to socialize their losses to everyone else..
This is fundamentally why the NDP lost the elections.. That’s right “ELECTIONS”..
Yawn… all this under a “increase in gas prices” news article! How many sacks of hammers are on this site?
I attempted to initiate a intelligent debate / discussion on the subject of rising gas prices but found myself conversing with sacks of hammers!
I hope you; northman. riskeone, and JohnnyBelt are more than this site has to offer. It’s like conversing with 12 year olds on here.
Can anyone please find a mature, intelligent, adult that I can engage in debate, or discussion, with?
Crossing my fingers for northman… ok lets try this again!
northman states; “The real reason that gas prices “swing” is because of commodities futures trading/short selling. The only one who has the power to change this is if all the securities and exchange commissions across the globe got together and put an end to futures trading.”
northman if it is simply global commodities futures trading/short selling that establishes gasoline prices, could you please explain to the rest of us why the price per USD gallon of gas is $6.48 in the Netherlands and only 12 cents per USD gallon in Venezuela?
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global_gasprices/
As AirInc. states in the above Internet link; “The main factor in (gasoline) price disparities between countries is GOVERNMENT POLICY.” NOT global securities and exchange commissions or it’s market as you suggest!
People1st: “I hope you; northman. riskeone, and JohnnyBelt are more than this site has to offer. It’s like conversing with 12 year olds on here.”
You say that as if you’re anything special. Nope, no delusions of grandeur here! ;-)
And by the way, I hate to break it to you, but nobody cares who you are.
*note to self: must hammer my head down a few Intelligent Quotient (IQ) levels to communicate with JohnnyBelt*
Something wrong? You’re repeating yourself over and over. Maybe OCD?
JB, meet People 1st, the Citizen websites #1 blogger. Also known as Giggity Boo, Slap Shot and Don’s crazy girlfriend. She, however, claims she does not have multple personalities.
Wow… got any conspiracy theories as well middle finger? Do you believe in the shooter on the grassy knoll theory? Maybe man never did land on the moon and it was all fake?
I have no idea what you are taking about, but if you want to engage me in debate on the subject of rising fuel prices, by all means go ahead!
Hey, you’re the one bragging about your anonymity and great debating skills. Welcome to the big screen People 1st.
You can call me by any moniker you want, or think me any person you want middle.
As for my debating skills; you, and anyone else, can review this discussion thread and assess my debating skills themselves.
Thank you for welcoming me to the “Big Screen” it has a few sacks of hammers on it, I must admit there are signs of intelligent life here :)
Did you truly want an intelligent debate?
Or when it really comes down to it weren’t you really looking for a dumbed down fight?
After having voted in a large Liberal majority would intelligent debate start with comments like:
– “That’s ok, we will all collectively bend over, touch our toes, and take it anyway!”
– “Get use to bending over everyone :D We have 4 more years of this… yahoo :D”
– “exhaust fume inhaling liberals.”
– “dunderheads”
