Drug ‘Stronger Than Heroin’ Responsible For Two Deaths

Saturday, May 18, 2013 @ 4:10 AM

Prince George, BC – Prince George RCMP say lab tests have now confirmed that the prescription narcotic, Fentanyl, appears to be the cause of two deaths in the city…

Media Liaison Officer, Corporal Craig Douglass, says RCMP and the BC Coroners Service received the results yesterday confirming that Fentanyl appears to be responsible for the death of two men – one died last November, the other passed away just last month.

Corporal Douglass says the two deceased males were known to use heroin.  RCMP issued a public health warning at the end of April warning of the possibility that Fentanyl may have been sold as heroin in the community.  "This warning came as a result of lab tests conducted on drugs that were seized by police as part of a drug trafficking investigation," says Douglass.  "Those drugs were believed to be heroin, but were found to be Fentanyl." He says Fentanyl is much stronger than heroin and officers have been warning known drug users in the community of the increased chance of overdose and death.
