Mackenzie Crash Kills 12-Year-Old Girl

Tuesday, May 21, 2013 @ 10:52 AM

Mackenzie, BC – RCMP are releasing details of Friday night’s single vehicle crash that, tragically, claimed the life of a 12-year-old girl…

Police say the youngster was a passenger in a Jeep YJ that was being driven by an 11-year-old girl, when it lost control and overturned on a Forest Service Road just before 7pm on Friday night.  RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk says the young driver was under the supervision of a 41-year-old male at the time of the crash.

While police will confirm that three occupants of the Jeep were from the Mackenzie area, Corporal Moskaluk will not say if they were all family members.

The Causeway Forest Service Road was closed for approximately 10-hours while officers examined the scene.  The police investigation is ongoing and the BC Coroners Service is conducting its own investigation.

Corporal Moskaluk says all of the evidence will be looked at in its totality before RCMP determine whether charges will be laid.  The RCMP Detachment Commander in Mackenzie, Sergeant Syd Lecky, says, "The impact on the community and in our elementary and high schools has been significant."

He says, " Investigators and RCMP Victim Assistance workers continue to work with the community in providing support to affected families."

A terrible tragedy.
metalman.

Wow. My heart goes out to all involved.
I don’t know what is worse, the victim being related to the “supervising” adult or not. Bless her little soul

I talked to my Grandson on Sunday morning…he said he didn’t have a good night..when I asked him why, he replied, “I lost a friend on Friday.” I am so sad for him, and my heart breaks for this little girls family. A horrible tragedy.

RIP sweetie. What a terrible accident :(
