Tumbler Ridge- A 20 year woman will appear in court July 18th in Tumbler Ridge , after she backed her vehicle over a tent which contained a young family. A 20 year old mother, her three year old boy and a 18 month old boy were asleep in a tent when another 20 year old who had been arguing with her boy friend jumped into a vehicle and backed over the three , sleeping in the tent.
The three were rushed to Tumbler Ridge Community Health centre by other campers who were parked near the Wolverine River, near Tumbler Ridge .
The young mother sustained numerous serious injuries, and remains in hospital in Dawson Creek in stable condition. The three year old boy sustained a laceration to the back of his head which required stitches, and the 18 month old child was uninjured.
Charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm are being sought.

So sad and so preventable. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for the mother and the little boy.
Just watched this news story about 10 minutes ago on BC CTV news tonight. They had footage of a RCMP officer saying the investigation is expanding because of serious threats made against the female driver, via social media.
People should just let the RCMP do their job, and stop with all the vigilantly justice threats!
Here is hoping momma and her child recover fully!

“serious threats made against the female driver, via social media.”
I think they meant via anti-social media.
Once saw a drunk guy drive over a tent at a Summit Lake forestry camp site party. The whole party chased the guy down… lucky for everyone no one was sleeping in the tent at the time.
Some people are just plane dumb in where they drive without looking first and others in where they set their tents up. For me I’d never set a tent up where a vehicle could drive over it. That’s rule number one when camping with a tent IMO.
I hope the 20 year old women gets some time. People need to learn to look in situations like that. How is it any different than a drunk driver?
Not saying that there isn’t some culpability here, but I think there is a difference from a drunk driver. A drunk driver generally knows that he is drunk and has the time to contemplate and decide that he isn’t up to driving. If the young woman was upset and backed up without looking carefully, it was a momentary slip when overcome by emotion. So driving drunk is worse because it is premeditated and more easily avoided.
I know how to prevent these unfortuate mishaps. Pass a law that stipulates every vehicle has to have a rear mounted video camera installed on and in their vehicle. Crappy Tire sells them. Watch a video of yerself backing up. Hey! It would just be another law. We don’t have enough of them.
If people don’t use their rear view mirrors, they won’t pay attention to a back up camera either.
Note to self! Don’t pitch tent behind the car.
