Prince George Roads Apparently Get a Pass

Prince George, B.C. – You have three days left in which to cast your vote for the road you feel is the worst in terms of road safety, congestion, potholes or deteriorating pavement.
The B.C. Automobile Association’s Worst Roads survey wraps up on Monday, and so far it appears that either people aren’t interested in taking part, believe that our roads are in pretty good shape, or roads in other B.C. cities are much worse than ours. Here are the BCAA’s top 10 worst roads to this point:
1. BC Parkway, Vancouver
2. Westside Road, Kelowna
3. Vernon Slocan Highway
4. George Massey Tunnel, Richmond
5. Seat-to-Sky Highway, Pemberton
6. Pacific Rim Highway, Port Alberni
7. Island Highway, Malahat
8. Todd Road, Kamloops
9. Indian River Drive, North Vancouver
10. BC Parkway, Burnaby (tied)
Foothills Boulevard, Prince George (tied)
Port Mellon Highway, Gibsons
As you can see, Prince George has just one street on the 2013 list, while four of our city’s streets made the top ten list (2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th) when it was finalized in 2012. BCAA says so far “voting data indicates the top problem cited is potholes and crumbling pavement, followed by pedestrian/cycling safety and then traffic congestion.
If you would like to cast a vote in the Worst Roads survey you can do so, up until Monday, at bcaa.com/worstroads

Ferry by superstore missed the top ten?? Odd.
Maybe we’re just tired of complaining about them?
50% of the population can’t be bothered to vote on something as important as a Prov. election, why would they put down the Cheezies and the remote to vote on bad roads?
Many of the awful spots were repaired last year. While still some poor spots this year, perhaps people don’t see our roads as “the worst in BC”?
I think we have so many awful roads that we can’t all agree to vote on the same one. Myself, I never drive on Foothills in the bad section so I wouldn’t vote for it not knowing how bad it is. BCR site on the other hand, because I drive it daily, definitely gets my vote.
Possibly these other cities have minimal bad areas that people can collectively agree on which one is the worst?
If they are counting raw votes then (a) they are doing it wrong; and (b) our roads are in fact much worse than those in the Lower Mainland. The reason is that the population density is much greater in the Lower Mainland, so if people have the same propensity to participate, and if the roads are of the same quality, you will get a lot more votes for (that is, against) roads in the Lower Mainland simply because there are more voters down there. A meaningful survey would have to weight votes by population density.
Gotta love the headline. No editorializing there! :-)

Maybe those 50% are not voting out of protest because none of the roads represent thier interests, as some people believe Pylot ;)
