Prince George, B.C. – Members of the military, fire and police departments, politicians both city and provincial, family, friends and members of the Prince George Legion gathered at Fort George Park on Saturday.
They were there to take part in the fourth annual Walk of Honour, which raises funds that go toward Winch House, a residence in Vancouver which houses military personnel and first responders who have to undergo medical treatment in Vancouver. Winch House also puts up their family members.
Prince George Mayor Shari Green was on hand to acknowledge the fine job that the city’s firefighters do in protecting city residents from harm. Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond was likewise complimentary about those who risk life and limb in the service of their country in the armed forces. She also paid special tribute to the executive and members of Prince George Legion Branch #43.
And she encouraged those on hand to “next year bring your whole family and friends along because we’re going to continue making this event bigger and better each year.”
The Walk of Honour is two laps around the perimeter of Fort George Park, which covers a distance of just under 5 kilometres, although piper Sheldon Clare added a few extra steps for good measure this year. (Those who were there know. Everyone else will just have to show up next year!)
Comments
The lLegion must be getting short of ordinary members that they should remember those who served at tnis time.
Cheers
