Prince George, BC.- All the votes are in, but it will be another week before the BCAA can sift through all the data to officially crown the “worst road” in B.C.

The month long survey called on B.C. residents to vote for the road they consider to be the worst based on condition, safety or congestion.
Last year, Prince George had four roads  in the top 10,   with Domano Boulevard, Tabor Boulevard, Massey, and 15th Avenue all making the list. In 2011, P.G.   had the number one worst road in the Province with Ospika at the top of the list.

As of last week, when the final push was on for the final votes, Prince George had just one road , Foothills Boulevard, on the list, and it was in a three way tie for tenth spot.

The good news is, Foothills is already on the list of roads to be repaired this year.

Weat Austin

West Austin is on the list. Hopefully both lanes will be done and not just one side like the last time.

Soon all the crime dudes will have good get away roads securing our top spot as crime capital.

Grind off three inches (not metric), mix with used motor oil and re-apply. Good for another year.

Foothills at the north end is beyond repair. It needs a complete rebuild from the sub-base up. Any attempt at overlaying what’s there now would be a complete waste of tax dollars. (Not sure if this is even the section they plan to pave) This goes for many of the roads that have already been overlayed without any attempt at fixing the damage underneath. Looks better when we get more pavement now, but trading needed base repairs for a band aid solution that wont last will cost us more in the medium and long term. It’s like polishing a turd.

There is only one solution (that I can see)to the problem we’re facing with these roads. A huge blitz of road rehab. This means spending a huge amount of money just to get caught up to the SDI rating they should be at. Then a much higher annual maintenance budget than what exists now. Anyone remember PCMS? Too bad the money is not there. Too bad the problem was not addressed when it was managable. Too bad the roads are the tip of the iceberg. The decay/maintenance budget ratio for our water and sewer systems are said to be in the same boat (pun). This problem can’t be pinned soley on the present powers that be. It’s been festering for quite some time as far as I can see. The present government NEEDS to find a way to budget this, otherwise there will be molre to deal with later. I know this has been said a thousand times but we need to get back to basics and fix what we have before we can fund the bells and whistles.

By the way, has anyone seen the condition of the median island and the off ramp in front of the Hart Highway McDonald’s?
Chucks of curbing broken out and lying around. The paved surface of the island broken apart. The crush fill of the island is spreading out on the road. The road itself is blown out completely blown out near the highway. The fact that it is in such condition is not acceptable, further, it has been like this for years. No attempt to fix it up, it just keep getting worse. What would have cost a relativley small amount in maintenance years ago is now in need of a major amount of funding. (Which is probably why it will not be fixed anytime soon).

I’m done ranting for today.

I wonder if the curb in the photo above is slated for repair. If not it will end up looking like the one I just described. This time I’m done.

Who ever is behind the curbs in this town should be forced to plow snow for one winter. Maybe a trip through the windshield will remind him why curbs are not a good idea in a snow belt.

X-it, you curb smasher. I just wish someone could come by and pick up the large pieces of broken curb laying around the neighbourhood. Thanks X-it.

Good News… Not a problem, just increase taxes to cover it. People in PG have deep pockets and another 3-4% increase is peanuts. By the time we get the increase next year they will be up to the 7 million a year they need for road rehab and we can start paying for the new PAC in our increases. Is it just me or is Stolz starting to rub people the wrong way with his arrogance in his interviews on CKPG?

Ha Ha not me smashing the curbs middle finger, however i have had some close calls riding a bike next to the them.
