Murdoch Named UNBC Athletic Director

Loralyn Murdoch, ( photo of Murdoch, courtesy UNBC) the coach of the UNBC Women’s Basketball team, will take on the post which has been vacant since Jason Kerswill left in March to join Canada Basketball.
Born and raised in Prince George, Murdoch attended Blackburn Elementary and P.G. Secondary School . She started at UNBC as an intramural assistant in 1996 and helped create the UNBC Women’s basketball team a year later. She would lead that team to the BCCAA Provincial Championships in 2008 and 2012 and last year introduced the team to the CanadaWest Conference of Canadian Interuniversity Sport, the highest level of amateur basketball in the country.
She attended Grande Prairie Regional College and University of Alberta where she played ball for the U of A Pandas. She obtained a Master of Education degree from the University of Victoria.
“I’m very excited about this new opportunity at UNBC,” says Murdoch, “I understand how special it is to have a chance to combine academics and athletics, and provide recreational opportunities for the students and staff at UNBC. “
Murdoch will assume the role of Athletics Director on June 3rd.

Time will tell…I don’t see it as a smart hire but I hope she proves me wrong!
Her performance was very good as a coach and it looks like a good choice. UNBC should also update its webpage and remove the employment opening for the Athletic Director position.
Seems to be a natural fit to me. Congrats!
