Terrace Kids Get ‘Inked’ For Safety

Terrace, BC –  Terrace RCMP are working hand-in-hand with parents in the community to help protect children in the community…

For the second year in a row, the RCMP’s Auxiliary Officers in the community have used National Missing Children’s Day as a day to help parents complete Child ID kits.

Terrace RCMP Media Relations Officer, Constable Angela Rabut, says the best thing a parent can do to protect their child is teach them to be safe and aware."

Some prevention and awareness tips include:

  • teaching your child that a stranger is not necessarily someone they’ve never seen or met before, but could be someone already known and seen everyday
  • ensure your child knows his/her full name, parents’ full names, full address and telephone number
  • explain how to use the phone, including pay phones and how to make a collect call
  • it’s best to travel in groups and stay away from isolated areas like empty lots, parks and fields
  • trust instincts – tell a parent if they feel something is suspicious or wrong, and about a person they don’t like

Rabut says having a completed Child ID kit is an invaluable resource in assisting emergency personnel in searching for a missing child.
