Highway 16 Slide Being Cleared

Valemount, B.C. – The provincial Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the debris resulting from a mudslide on Highway 16 east near Tete Jaune Cache is in the process of being cleared.
The slide blocked the highway 8 kilometres west of the junction with Highway 5 earlier today. It measured 50 feet wide and a foot deep, according to the RCMP. There were no vehicles caught in the slide however the situation remained unstable throughout the afternoon as a geotechnical assessment was conducted. There has been no detour available around the site.
The Transportation Ministry says road clean-up is in progress and the estimated time of re-opening Highway 16 is now between 8 and 11 pm this evening.
