Quesnel Cracks Down on Impaired Drivers

Tuesday, June 25, 2013 @ 11:42 AM
Quesnel, B.C.- A number of drivers in the Quesnel region have seen their vehicles impounded or the licenses suspended because of impairment.

Quesnel RCMP and Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services had set up numerous road blocks on the weekend fully expecting to come across grads who had been celebrating.

While several impaired drivers were caught, none were grads. The weekend crackdown  resulted in 5 drivers having their licences suspended for 90 days, one was served with a 3 day suspension and one was suspended for 24 hours.

In all, since June 1st, this has been one very busy month for Quesnel and Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services when it comes to impaired driving offences, here are the numbers:

·        9 people have been handed a 90 day immediate roadside prohibition  (IRP)  for being either over the legal limit or refusing to provide a breath sample
·        5 given 3, 7 or 30 day IRP  for blowing a “warn”
·        3 given 24 hour prohibition for drug impairment
·        4 given 24 hour prohibition for alcohol impairment
·        17 vehicles impounded for a variety of driving offences.

Police in Quesnel are passing allow congratulations to those grads for their attention to road safety issues, and suggest some members of the community could learn a thing or two from those grads.
