Fatal Crash Leads to Property Crime Suspects

Tuesday, June 25, 2013 @ 3:20 PM
Williams Lake, B.C.- The investigation into the fatal roll over crash on Chimney Lake Road  in Williams Lake early Monday has revealed stolen property and two suspects.

When Williams Lake RCMP responded to the initial crash site, they determined the Dodge Ram pickup truck had been stolen from Grand Prairie, Alberta. The truck’s license plate had been replaced with a stolen one from Chetwynd, BC. It is believed alcohol and excessive speed were factors in this crash.

A 22-year-old male from Williams Lake was found deceased at the scene of the crash and a 21-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition. A third passenger was arrested at the scene without incident.

The 21 year-old driver and one of the passengers fled on foot. Shortly after they left the scene, a Toyota Tundra was stolen from a nearby residence.

After a brief pursuit and with assistance from Police Dog Services, both suspects were apprehended and taken into custody.

Police say the two male suspects are from Alberta and the driver had outstanding warrants from that province.

Items found in the stolen truck were a .22 caliber firearm, a knife and brass knuckles.

Police believe the males may also be linked to several offences in the Williams Lake region.
