BCNE General Manager Resigns

Wednesday, June 26, 2013 @ 4:24 PM
Prince George, B.C.- The inaugural year of the BCNE  (BC Northern Exhibition) is facing another challenge, the new General Manager, Angela Cunningham, who has been in that post for about 6 weeks, has resigned.

“It ( the resignation)  was for personal reasons” says Prince George Agriculture and Historical Association President Nancy Loreth.  ( at right, Nancy Loreth  at announcement of name change for PGX – photo 250News archive)

It is the Association that is responsible for running the fair, which, up until this year, had been known as the PG Exhibition.

Loreth says the Board and volunteers have been quick to react to the resignation, and  they are determined to see that  “the show must go on.”

This year’s fair will be smaller, and one day shorter than last year’s 5 day centennial celebration.   Loreth says the funding for this year has not been as great as was in 2012, largely because last year’s event was the 100th anniversary of the fair.

There is yet another challenge, in that with the construction of the   Kin 1 for the Canada Winter Games, some ground space has been lost, but Loreth says the space between the Kin Centres and the Barns is now booked.

The food court is booked, the entertainment has been booked but not yet confirmed, and the line up for the community stage is confirmed. Loreth says the Community stage will also be the site for the evening main stage entertainment.

The annual dance will be held in Kin 3, with the home arts displays to be set up in Kin 2.

As for finding a new GM, “The board has decided not to look for a new GM until after this fair is over” says Loreth.

The BCNE is set for August 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th.

It speaks well to the service of the volunteers and staff that fair won’t hire another manager until this year’s event is over. Must be some very capable people on the team. This year’s expansion of the agriculture showcase and theme will help bring the fair back to the roots. Should be a great event.
