Police Will Be on the Highways This Long Weekend

Friday, June 28, 2013 @ 3:55 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Since July 1st falls on a Monday this year, it is truly a long weekend, and that means RCMP are expecting heavier traffic volumes as people head out for   a holiday.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson of  the RCMP’s  North District Traffic Services says people can expect to see lots of RCMP enforcement on the roads this weekend. “We will be targeting aggressive drivers, impaired drivers, those who are driving while distracted, and of course those who are driving while impaired or not wearing their seat belts.”

Cpl. Saunderson says there will be units on all highways from 100 Mile House north, from the Alberta Border to Prince Rupert and all points in between.

“We want everyone to enjoy this first long weekend of summer” Says Copl Saunderson, “but we want them to enjoy it safely.”

Please people, if you see someone driving erratically, call in and report it. And when you see them pulled over further down the road pull over as well and give a statement. The majority of the time when someone gets reported it can’t be backed up because they drive ‘good’ when they see the police car. With a statement from another driver, when/if the ticket gets disputed, it has a better chance of standing up in court. It might add an extra 30 minutes to your trip but it sure beats coming around a corner and seeing an accident.

And get off talking on the cell phones/texting etc….

So will I. My dash cams, (front and rear) are wonderful things. It’s amazing the things you record just driving around town. I had enough of others endangering my life with their licensed incompetence. Too many people have drivers licenses that absolutely shouldn’t.

So smile! You may be the star of your own movie.

I hope they look at getting those slow moving people who don’t move in to the left lane or run side byside double lane blocking traffic…and also those people who have old junk not suitable to drive on our roads….Please get some of those pictures to add to your collection as well.

Not everyone can afford a new top quality beemer or Vette, but hey if one is behind you, move!!!

Saw a few fatals in my short time on earth, really got sick of all the ghouls slowing down and gawking. At accidents please pay attention to the flagger, members directing you around the scene.
This day and age, its cellphone distraction, plain anger, along booze and drugs that makes some fool cause an accident and kill someone else. Until you’re there to investigate or clean up the mess, it really won’t hit you and sink in.
So please folks, slow down, relax and just concentrate on your driving skills.
No one wants to lose someone, the finality is a shock.

Its awesome they are out on the highways but what about in town? There are plenty of speeders and inattentive drivers on the Hart Hwy 500 and the Foothills Autobahn.
