Last Day for Firearms Amnesty

Sunday, June 30, 2013 @ 4:00 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Today is the final day to take advantage of the gun amnesty in B.C.

Throughout the month of June, unwanted firearms , ammunition, or other weapons, could be turned into the RCMP without fear of repercussions, unless of course the item had been used in the commission of a crime.

Two weeks into the amnesty, 18 firearms had been surrendered to RCMP in Prince George.

Those items were:
  • 4x .303 rifles
  • 5 x .22 rifles
  • 1x 30-06 rifle
  • 3 x 12 gauge shot guns
  • 1x 20 gauge shot gun
  • 1x 410 shot gun
  • 2 x .22 revolvers
  • 1 x .38 revolver

Other items turned in include: ammunition, magazines, holsters, a pellet gun, pellets and CO2 cartridges.

The RCMP will come and pick up the items, as they do not want members of the public arriving at the detachment to deliver the firearms.  Call the RCMP and arrange for an officer to pick up the item.

All items submitted will be tested, and if cleared of any connection to firearms used in the commission of a crime, may be used in the short term as a training tool. Eventually, all of the firearms will be destroyed.

The final tally on  items surrendered is not expected  until  at least  July 5th.

Comments

They should sell them if they are serviceable and use the funds to combat crime, or fund a youth program, instead of destroying them.

That list would be a lot bigger if we had a flood, just sayin’.
