A side by side is technically not an ATV. This thing is a UTV. (U=utility) It is not rider active, and is notorious for a high center of gravity which play a large part in rollovers.

Problem is, too many drive it as if it were a single person ATV.

Chetwynd RCMP are citing speed, alcohol, and failure to wear a seatbelt as contributing factors. No other vehicles were involved.

I totally agree gus. People drive these UTV’s and put them into situations they weren’t designed for.

Pretty soon, everyone will need to be trained and licensed to drive these things… atv’s, utv’s, and yes, snowmobiles.

Unfortunately, the average joe or jane has no idea what the capabilities of the machine are when they buy it.

The free ride so to speak will be coming to an end.

JB….you are in a soft mood today….these toys are like anything else in this world…..any idiot is allowed to operate one……..

The government is just looking for reasons to get into licensing and registration.

Incidents like this, which seem to happen with all too much frequency only support the cause.

I’m not saying I like it, but unfortunately, it seems the general public is unable to handle these vehicles properly.

I didn’t even mention mandatory specialized insurance. :P

I’m all for it. Dinner was ruined the other night for me and many others because some class 5 knob spent an hour and a lot of gas trying to back his 26ft. trailer into his camping spot. Back to my point….any idiot is allowed to operate one.

It’s like the fellow/company that took out the I5 bridge with his oversized load … any idiot is allowed to operate those.

Of course, one could say it took some 60 years to find him.

That would be “them”. The truck driver and the pilot/ pole truck driver.

Sorry to hear of this fatality. Too bad they chose to go for a spin/drive home whatever after drinking.

As to the “class 5 knob” its true, anyone is allowed to buy a trailer and tow it down the road, that is one of the freedoms we have left. Personally, if I was unable to reverse and place the trailer where I wanted it, I would go somewhere and practice, before embarrasssing myself and my family in front of a crowd. Assuming the driver was a male, I wonder if his wife was giving directions;););)
metalman.
