Architect Perkins+Will unveils design of new Queen Charlotte/Haida Gwaii hospital

Prince George, BC – After learning that a preferred proponent had been selected to build a $50-million dollar replacement hospital for Queen Charlotte/Haida Gwaii in mid-June, area residents were given a sneak peak at the design of the proposed facility this past Tuesday…

"The community update meeting provided the community with a great opportunity to network with the Bouygues Building Canada prior to the official start of construction," said Carol Kulesha, Village of Queen Charlotte mayor and North West Regional Hospital District vice-chair. "The new hospital will be a great benefit for the community, and it is fantastic to see the dedication to this project from all partners including the preferred design-build team."

Architect, Perkins+Will, will work in partnership with Bouygues Building Canada on the 17-bed facility that will feature eight acute care beds, eight residential care beds for clients with complex needs, and a labour/delivery/recovery suite; as well as Emergency Services; Oncology Services; Diagnostic Imaging; and a Laboratory.

"This project is an important investment for families and future generations on Haida Gwaii in the delivery of quality, sustainable health care services," said Sheila Gordon-Payne, Northern Health northwest health service administrator. “The new facility will provide an enhanced working environment for our staff and physicians.”

Northern Health expects to have a fixed price agreement in place with Bouygues this summer and construction will begin as soon as the agreement is signed.  The new hospital is slated to open in the fall of 2015.

Nice looking building. Hopefully they can get all the proper staffing.

We need more up to date facilities in rural areas to ensure people can stay in these areas if they prefer.
