Canfor Commits to 5 Years of Fireworks Sponsorship
Prince George, B.C. – They lit up the sky on Canada Day, and Canfor has promised to repeat the performance for 5 more years.
Canfor had paid $10 grand for the fireworks display that was launched from Connaught Hill park on Canada Day. Visible for miles around, the display was a hit, and the first time in several years that fireworks had capped off a Prince George Canada Day Party .
“Canfor was proud to sponsor the Canada Day fireworks as part of our company’s 75th Anniversary,” said Canfor President and CEO Don Kayne. “We were so impressed by the response of the community of Prince George to the return of the fireworks celebration that we are pleased to sign on as the presenting sponsor for the next five years."
Canfor offered thanks to Mayor Shari Green for bringing Canfor on board for this event.
Executive Director of the Multicultural Heritage Society, Marlies Greulich, says she is thrilled with the news of Canfor’s commitment “The fireworks display is the grand finale to one of our city’s most anticipated celebrations. They represent the candles on the birthday cake.”

Really nice that canfors roots are in the community, if the community is PG. Too bad all the other communities have never received the same respect or consideration. Very little sponsorship.
First comment is a thumbs down, amazing. Are you really sure canfor does not give back to other communities?
Good for Canfor!! I approached them for a donation years ago for a disadvantaged youth camp, and they came through for us. So yes they do sponsor other communities, and associations.
Yeah like providing jobs for the last 35 years. That’s a good start!
Colour me impressed with respect and gratitude. Not too long ago Canfor sponsored a community office downtown and was involved in almost every major event and/or initiative in town – whether in a big or small way, but they were a constant in our community. Nice to see this initiative…back in the right direction.
“disadvantaged youth camp”…. young NDPers standing around the campfire in their orange scarfs?
Canada Day is a day to celebrate. Fireworks are a great way to allow many people to enjoy it. Especially from Connaught Hill. It was a great location from my perspective. it would be visible for miles around, not just Fort George Park.
Congratulations Canfor! You do have your roots in our community and many others as well. Thank you for your community involvement and support.
Good to see Canfor return to being a part of the community not just another employer almost like the old Canfor I once knew…… Bravo
“Yeah like providing jobs for the last 35 years” .. seriously? You think they did that to help out the people and the communities? Or do you think it maybe has more to do with creating wealth for the shareholders of canfor? No one creates jobs to benefit anyone but themselves or their bankers. It is good canfor is doing this, but that comment just made it abundantly clear how much corporations have brainwashed the working public.
As one of the many people that watched this display, I appreciate Canfor’s support. Thanks for committing to the next 5 years. I also think that a bank account could be set up so the rest of us could throw in a couple dollars.
O/T but was there an idle no more protest Canada Day? Not that I noticed. Too hot maybe?
But: “It is good canfor is doing this, but that comment just made it abundantly clear how much corporations have brainwashed the working public.”
Hot damn my good neighbours are on fire today…great post!
